Hey, folks. What a great resource this place is. I’m doing three days/two nights on the Upper Bartram Trail in April. Platform camping. Does anyone have a sense whether that area is going to be a mosquito nightmare at that time?

I'd say hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I've never been to Alabama, but I've hit bad mosquitos in South Florida in March. I've also gotten mosquito bites in Alaska in April while shoveling snow. Have a good trip.

I've never paddled in Alabama but I have in many other southern states, and there were mosquitoes in April. May is worse, and the yellow flies in May are worse than the mosquitoes. Just bring plenty of DEET, wear long sleeved shirts, a hat, and maybe get a compact headnet such as this one:

Thank you for the warm welcome and advice! Only canoe camping I’ve done has been Okefenokee (two times) and Suwannee River (two times). Thankfully haven’t had too much of a problem during those. And will do on filling out the account info!
