    Don’t tape your paddles

i used a big old bathsheet. Cut it in half, folded the rest in half and sewed the long sides and bottoms together, then stitched in a drawstring. So ugly, but it works great.

Getting in and out of the boat: Canoe vs Pack Boat

Typically, we load our canoe in the water and do a wet entry. Two examples. Bow: https://youtu.be/MI6bryIjhmo Stern: https://youtu.be/aLjRjPlP1ik

    Sechelt Inlet, BC

Sechelt Inlet, one ferry away from Vancouver, is an ideal canoe destination. Here's a write-up with pics and videos of a four-day Fall trip. https://kjandjeff.ca/wp/2020/10/08/sechelt-inlet/

Spray skirt attachments for Northstar Trillum canoe

I'll have to check. Just went through a move and we may have tossed it. I'll let you know. It's very UV damaged, btw (or it was).

Spray skirt attachments for Northstar Trillum canoe

Had a CCS snap cover. Hated it. First, it was hard to put on, especially when dry. As we live on the west coast and paddle in the ocean, we often load the canoe in the water, because at low tide, it's impossible to slide a canoe into the water as beaches tend to be very rocky. Snapping the cover...

    Tales of Broken Paddles?

Never broke one but I was on a trip where we needed one paddle, and we forgot to bring it. The trip was a climb of Mt. Judge Howay in BC. This trip begins with a paddle across stave lake (about 15 km) in canoes carrying bikes. At the end of the paddle, we rode 25 km along a logging road to a...

    New Canadian canoe maker?

Anybody know about these canoes? I could not find any info online. New Canadian canoe launched at Pop-Ups on the Bay https://www.intelligencer.ca/news/lo...ups-on-the-bay Belleville’s Pop-Ups on the Bay was the chosen location to launch a new Canadian canoe — designed and manufactured in...

    Let’s talk glamper trip gear

No portaging ever for us (west coast ocean paddling) so we bring a double burner suitcase stove, 10" frying pan and cutting boards to prepare veggies. Of course, lightweight folding chairs. I'm thinking about a telescope to find galaxies in the night sky.

    Adapting to bent shaft paddle

My partner (bow) and I (stern) are recreational flatwater paddlers. With a loaded canoe we often travel 25-30 km per day. Our longest day unloaded was 49 km in 8 hours of paddling. We're not in a hurry. I have a fairly narrow beaver tail blade and she has a smaller otter tail. One thing that...

    Pilgrims ruining parks

I'm actually amazed there isn't more litter given the crowds in the near backcountry. In the water, I notice (and pick up) cans and bags that have fallen off power boats. At campsites here (Indian Arm, near Vancouver BC) where there is a permanent fire ban, I remove fire rings and burnt wood...

    Bowron lakes info?

Steve, this is a front country trip in the backcountry. Each lake has at least one large covered cook shelter, an emergency radio and a ranger station. Regarding the chute at the end of Isaac Lake, if you have any moving water experience, do it. I ran it solo twice--once empty to practice, then...

    Bowron lakes info?

While reservations are suggested, if your group has just one canoe, then you may be able to show up on the day you want to go as there are some first-come, first-served spaces. Here's how to do that: Arrive in the parking lot late at night. Sleep on the ground or in your car. Go wait at the...
