@Steve in Idaho Perfect, thank you! This is the route I will go…looks simple enough to install…

Are these seat drops home-made or did you get them from somewhere?

Converting Penobscot 16 into a solo...

Hi Steve in Idaho, do you have a photo or image of what this setup looks like when it's all in place? I'm trying to visualize it and can't find anything online. I think this might be the yoke setup I need to investigate though...Thanks!

The plugs easily come out to reconvert to a tandem setup or to use for other seats, etc...but it does look nicer in my opinion when they are sealed...

3/16” black plastic hole plugs…they work great.

Foam block pad for one-shoulder carries

I use that shoulder carry foam pad from Northstar, and it really helps soften the edge of the gunwale digging into my shoulder when I’m carrying around my royalex Penobscot 16. Since I don’t have a yoke in that boat the shoulder pad has been helpful when bringing it around for short distances.

Converting Penobscot 16 into a solo...

Thanks Steve in Idaho, I agree with you, and wish there was one in the original configuration…but the way those mid hull thwarts and mid seat were placed would have made installing one too cramped and I didn’t want to go adding a bunch of new holes while I spread out the thwarts. I have a...

Converting Penobscot 16 into a solo...

Thank you all for your inspiring and helpful replies. After taking out the Penobscot 16 (now dubbed the P'Solo) with just the center seat and two thwarts, the hull was flexing more than I liked, despite it feeling great heeled way over and paddling very well. I decided to take everything out and...

Island Falls Willow for sale in NJ

Thought I’d post this in case others may find interest in this Island Falls Willow canoe (not my sale): https://m.facebook.com/groups/219179608982/permalink/10162058655168983/?

    Photo of the day

If memory serves me, I think you’ve got the 20’ Wilderness? I would love to experience that canoe one day. As much as I love small solo canoes, there is something majestic and ethereal I find when sitting in a larger canoe… I’m kneeling on a stuff sack (Becky Mason style) a wee bit aft of...

    Photo of the day

Testing out some exceptional new ottertails from the Bob Man collection I recently discovered on FB (and there are more available!)...an exquisite 57" Tiger Maple which is quite stiff but allows for great acceleration and sturdiness with the Northwoods grip...and then a gorgeous 58" dark cherry...

I love the look of old small oriental rugs in wooden canoes…I bought a handful for cheap on marketplace and line the hull with them…

Converting Penobscot 16 into a solo...

I appreciate the photos and tips...Is it necessary to add thwarts in the same place as where the old seats were? I'd like to have some more room in the boat for my dog and gear, and was thinking of adding some lighter weight thwarts closer to the bow and stern...Wondering if there is an art or...

Yes! That is exactly what I plan to do...get a different seat. Yours is beautiful! Nice work... I do not have that skillset to make one, and I have been looking all over trying to find a wide seat that matches the dimensions of the one already in there (so I don't have to make new holes directly...
