Back in 1995 Lows Lake in NY Adirondacks experienced a big windstorm and it resulted in alot of blowndown trees. The following year or two, I don't really remember, I camped there at site #39. Here is the campsite with a nice view overlooking the bog which floats out into the middle of the lake.

All around the site at the time where remains of blowndown trees, some very pretty large pines, maybe up to 20 inches if I remember correctly. The front area as you can see was completely stripped of trees.

So this fall when I returned to Lows lake, I stopped at #39 for old times sake. It was the last trip I had taken with my black lab named Molly and it was nice to spend some time there and think back.

Here's a picture of the site today, gone is the view, although you can still see the bog floating out front, and the campsite is much different than I remember.

Oh yea, I ditched that lawn chair a while back, but I still have the same tarp and timberline tent, and the Peak One stove in it's carrying container on the rock.

Here is the map

That islandy thing in front of 39 is the bog. And it floats around a bit.

I have never been able to stay there. Two years ago it was too windy to get there in May. In Sept the lake was all taken and I had to grovel at dark site 30.
Next May I want to try again..maybe get all the way to 39. The bog is neat.

I paddled Little Tupper Lake the 1st week it was open to the public. I camped there the 2nd week it was open for camping.
The shores were fully blocked in, there was barely any room to land a canoe, save for the 4 feet of occasional natural beach. Campsites were fully grown in, barely room for a tent.
Now, It may as well be any other established camping area...long gone are those heavy growth sites and 18" Brookies..

I also paddled and camped at Lake Lila when the lodge was still standing and few people visited. I'll dig through my archives and see if I can find some relevant photos.

I also paddled Lows back when you had to have advance, written permission. And I was there when the whole complex was still standing at Hitchins...lots of changes, not for the better IMHO.

On the other hand, I can remember paddling Long Pond back when the tent platforms were still allowed, when you could drive right to the waters edge and the entire place was a big pile of sh!t...That's certainly an area that has changed for the better!

If you have dates and historic photos I, for one, would be very interested. Do you have any info re site 7 ruins on Little Tupper?

YC,

I do have some photos from early on at LTL and some scanned stuff from Nehasane at Lila. It's kind of strange to refer to my photos as historic, but I guess I have been floating around for some time now...
As far as site #7 on LTL, I have wondered about that myself. No info, sorry. My buddy does have some photos of Camp Bliss, I'll see if he can dig them up.

Whoa!! It's 10:00 PM...gotta go, I see about those photos tomorrow.

I'm still looking for the photos of the Nehasane lodge, those were film photographs, not slides...I scanned all of my old slides to digital (13,000 of them) but not my old print photos
