The local canoe club Wimpel_klein.pngonce again invited members to its annual end-of-season paddling event.

Around 50 canoeists with approximately 30 canoes attended this weekend event.
Friends even came from neighboring countries (the Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium).

In addition to numerous teepees, tents and motorhomes were also set up on the club grounds.
Unfortunately, the good mood that everyone brought with them on Friday did not carry over to the weather.
On Saturday, strong winds and rain were constant companions on the Rur river.

Nevertheless, the general mood was great and everyone had a lot of fun as usual.

Thank you for all the pics and the report.

That great blue heron looks like he's saying "What the ****!"

That's a lot of teepees. Is that a trend in Europe?

Erica,

I think that's just the way things are...

When you've spent the whole day kneeling in a canoe, you're happy to be able to walk upright into your living and sleeping quarters in the evening, knowing that there's a folding bed, table, and chair where you can make yourself comfortable.

Similarly, as a canoeist, you don't really care how big your accommodation is...

Looks like a lot of fun! Ironically, in an area where canoeing is unlimited, I probably couldn't find more than three people to join a canoeing club. If I win the lottery, will your club invite me to a gathering?

Danke for the pictorial report. It looks like it was a fun gathering. Especially with all those teenage paddlers. Just like in good OLD America.

Wow - you have a club that is all canoes, and the club has "grounds". I'll say it again - wow!

Looks like a great event.

I agree with eckilson, I expected to see a bunch of kayaks and just a few canoes. What a nice turn out of mainly canoes, really impressive.

I was also surprised at all the single blades, especially wooden singles, live and learn.

A very nice gathering. Is it common for canoes to have names in Germany? I see my Raven's long lost cousin (much better preserved) in the front row is named "Bufje". What's the translation of that?

I usually just call mine "the __________ boat", inserting an adjective appropriate to its recent behaviour and the general situation.

Well, I learn something every day!!
Canoes on certain waters must have names...I was gonna ask about the proliferation of names.
Tell me more about the teepee style tents, I'm guessing they're fairly heavy and not good for extended carries?
And I was heartened to see at least ONE strippers among the crowd.
As others have said, good turnout.

Most if the teepee s are from tentipi from sweden if i look at the picture.
Most are polycotton. They do nylons as well. I have a 9 person one from nylon that is under 9 kilo's. With a stove very cousy in the colder periods as a group shelter. Fell in love with it when i did a trip on the Spey in november with a group of 8. Breakfast and diner in a warm tent and frosty grass. Combined with sections of grade 2 3 .

The river of the event if not that wood freindly
A friend of mine that is see on the picture did damage his wood n canvas so badly it needed several new planks and ribs.

Personally i would not take my wooden boats there.

Yes, tents from Tentipi are very popular here... with a floor space of 4-5 meters, they are also quite suitable for two to three people.
Another, cheaper alternative are tents from Helsport—these are made of synthetic fiber and are correspondingly lighter.
