Square Stern race

I would guess Cross Lake (can't remember its new name) or Norway House. It's called a "Cross Lake Racing Canoe" in the list of canoe models here:

"In Cross Lake, Manitoba there is a special canoe race dating to 1967, using freighter canoes converted to racing. These are required to be 18' LOA, built with wood & canvas construction, and have a "Y" stern. The bow rows and the stern paddles."

It looks like you're correct. From Mem's video I thought maybe it was just a sprint race but apparently it was just the end of a much longer race. If anyone needs help sleeping here is the full 2+ hour video of the race:

Looks like fun, especially the rowing position. The last time I rowed anything was about 55 years ago at scout camp. But I do like the near full body workout you can get on a rowing machine. I just have to find the ambition to get to the gym and actually do it. Maybe in a week or so when the local Y closes the lap pool for maintenance.
