This is a canoe that needs to find a new home, though that new home may be a funeral pyre...

This is a big boat, twenty feet long and 43" beam. In rough shape... it belongs to a kid's camp and it's been ineptly repaired over the years (and fiberglassed, whether over the canvas or directly on the wood I don't know). It's an odd shape at one end, though that may be one of the inept repairs.

It was known as the "banana boat" for obvious reasons, and used for the 4-man races at the annual inter-camp canoe regatta for years. I'm told it's 100 years old.

As I said, it's rough. Is it even worth restoring? I don't need another project!

I'd be interested in any guesses as to its true age or origin. It will be available, for free (though that may be too expensive) in the near future, though it will be offered to people connected to the camp first. The camp director just wants it gone; it's been replaced by an even longer fiberglass war canoe (also yellow, dubbed the "Banana 2000".

The best thing to do with over ripe bananas is make banana bread. However, sometimes the bananas are just too ripe, so they have to be chucked in the garbage. That canoe is pretty ripe, like the kind of ripe that attracts bugs. However, it is very unique. How many hundreds of pounds does it weigh?
