Spam News

Ha, about the only thing I was concerned about was getting backwashed spam in my Bud Lite - no-one likes their beer chunky.

Gee, I dunno. I was thinking that a little pre-masticated Spam might improve the (lack of) both flavor and color in a Bud Lite. Rice and questionably cheap pig parts are common ingredients in lots of third world meals.

Ohhh, if I had a nickel for every time I heard memequay say last summer ‘"This orgasmic Spam would pair rather eloquently with a nice little Belgian beer with cherry notes and oaky depths, say a delectable Chantillon Lou Pepe Kriek!”"

rob, I’m not sure about the terrior. If you hear Mem use that word in a sentence I’d run.

I was in my local cinderblock cheap beer outlet (cases & kegs only), replenishing critical Yuengling supplies when I noticed a case of DogFish Head 120 IPA.

I literally burst out laughing. It was $70 bucks a case. The guy standing next to me looked at me funny and I pointed to the price sign. He burst out laughing as well.

We did some rough calculations while waiting in line, came up with $3 a bottle and decided that for everyday use four cases of Yuengling ale or porter would be more cost effective.

Had to google that DogFish Head beer.........18%! Hot dang, that would be a great canoe beer. Here's my favorite review of it:

I challenged Tennessee trey to game of horseshoes and won. Payout was supposed to be a watermelon but dang ole trey gave me two of these instead. Me and Jesse fired these things down and howled at the moon. Tastes like rubbing alcohol and malt.

Mr Memequay sir. You seriously need one of these for late night snacking serenades. http://store.spam.com/CANJO-INSTRUME.../#.VyKEVCMrLVo

I'm pretty sure you could make one yourself, and could save yourself the $60 (American); you've got enough Spam cans to make an entire Spam-can orchestra.

"Do you hear Spam-jos playing? Paddle faster! TOWARDS the Spam-jos! I'm hungry!"

Mem you could go into production, under cut them by selling them for $60 CDN and write canoeing off as a business trip.

You do realize there are thousands of Spam Haiku poems....

Actually the best way to have said meat is on a leaf. Place a slice on a recognizable fresh tree leaf (maple works great, beech and birch are good too), put directly on hot coals of a campfire. When the edges begin to char, turn it over on another new leaf. When the edges char again it is done. Really quite good. Might be where the expression "to turn over a new leaf" comes from.

This very week I for the first time visited my grandfather's homeland village in southern Poland, at the base of the Carpathian mountains. In the tiny remote village I found a cousin who invited me and my wife into his home to get acquainted. Not a lick of English in his vocabulary, not more than 2 words of Polish in mine. We were immediately served a thick brown broth soup, which wasn't bad. But then he opened a can, somewhat larger than a tuna can, which held a recognizable pink mass. He sliced some chunks and dropped them in my soup. Yup, it was the very distinct taste and texture of Spam, by a different name. And so the day went.... more of the same now recognizable can sliced on a plate after he took us to meet his 90+ yr old parents farther up into the woods.

I went to class a couple of weeks ago to learn to make sushi. I am not going to try to get sushi grade fish so am using things like cooked crab and smoked salmon. Spam seems like an interesting ingredient. So here goes ..

History of Spam and a couple of recipes to be considered for camping.. Let's make Spam the official food of Canoetripping.net

I am pairing my Spam with Maudite from Unibroue. The two go perfectly together.

Holy Poopy Beelzebub! Spam singles in a foil pouch! Way more exciting than some Hippy Beer in a brown bottle!
I can smuggle some your way this summer.. The only good thing about Walmart is Spam singles.

Now being in green chile country and finding that not all green chiles are harmless.. I should carry an oral fire hydrant. Green Chile Cheeseburgers are all around

but as to Spam try this. You can probably shred the raw potato in camp and add the Spam and dehdydrate the rest

Along with the Spam singles (regular strength and lite), I found some bacon flavored Spam snack bits. I ate them on long ride home, from the big village, pretty tasty, managed to stave off hunger on the 43 minute drive, without resorting to fruit or candy. The open foil container stuffed into the cup holder was a Border Collie and Gordon Setter nose magnet, so it must have passed the nose sniff test also. I plan to leave some of the open (empty) packets at some if my favorite fishing holes to see if the bears clean them out and pick up after me.
