I've been considering building a solo cedar strip canoe,I'm 6'-1" and 200 lbs.any suggestions on a good design? Dedicated solo as I already have a 17 footer

Greenval will also sell plans for the Raven, I built one, it's nice and big.
Carrying Place Canoe Works (http://www.carryingplacecanoeworks.on.ca/html/canvas.html) sells plans for strippers which can be adjusted to build a wood canvas.
The Jack's Special (http://www.carryingplacecanoeworks.on.ca/html/pops/pop_03CANjack.html) is off of a 15' Chestnut Chum canoe. I'm your size, 6'1", 215 lbs and mine has been a fine solo tripper. Mihun, a member here also has one set up as a solo. My friend, Steve (Pathfinder here) has a Chum and considers it a find solo too.
The high stern and bow profile can be easily brought down to give the modern "solo" appearance, and a solo seat would fit nicely to make a VG solo tripper.
Just another option for a solo tripper.

That Bearmountain Freedom solo has a similar look to the J Winters "Kite" that I'm in the middle of building.
There are many solo designs by David Yost, a direct inquiry may get you what you're looking for. He is the most prolific and proficient canoe and kayak designer in the US.
I built a stripped DY Special, and at 16'8", it is quite fast, but not suited for all waters, so here comes the Kite...
