Its that time of year when dam operators across the northeast drawdown water levels in reservoirs in anticipation of winter's snow and rain. A lot of these drawdowns are scheduled on weekends so whitewater paddlers can take advantage of the release. Yesterday was the second weekend for the release on the Farmington in New Boston, MA; the release on the Little Suncook in Epsom, NH; and the release from the Gregg's Falls Dam on the Piscataquog in Goffstown NH. As I do most years, I made it out to the Piscat release, which comes with the added benefit of a great BBQ sponsored by two local paddling clubs - NHAMC and MVP. Its a short class II run with some fun playspots. We did two runs and then enjoyed the BBQ. Video (mostly open boats) here:
