I am going to have a look at it today!! 1974 Chestnut freighter. The boat is fiberglassed over canvas( so done right)! I was wondering how much it would be worth?? No motor but with trailer!

I went to look at it and it is a bit shorter than what I’m looking for( 22 foot) this one is 19’ x 48” and the five glassing is right on the wood and not on canvas... anyway it look alright!!

It wouild probably be @ 2000 down here. I had an 18 foot Kildonan that I sold as is for 900, no trailer. Thre was a guy selling a Pete here for years that wanted 2200.

A specialized market, but good ones down here in the south are 2-5,000.
Not so easy to sell. You need a trailer. You can't go wrong at 2,000. I would go higher.

I think I can get it for 3000 Canadian with trailer no motor.... but it is a bit smaller than what I wanted for the big lakes up here!! This one is 19’ x 48”

You know, for a couple of thousand you could build one yourself.

Time and space is a problem for me to built one! I think I will wait and do a road trip back east in the next year or two and pick one up in Prévost a 22’ canot norwest, they are the best and really well
made, they always seems to have some refurbish one too!!

I like that but you'd have to change your name to Canot-L'Orange. Comment dit-on, au revoir la panache?
The trailer is a bonus. You can always find an upgrade on a motor.
I've found several freighters here in Ontario (no Chestnuts) whilst online canoe shopping today but none as nice as that safety orange freighter (and no trailers).
And then of course you'd have to cover my gas to haul it up there (which would be an awesome autumn trip!!).

P.S. Why is fibre glass "done right"? Is it more durable than canvas? Less maintenance?

I think the the right way to fibreglass a cedar canvas canoe is to canvas it first and the glass over that so repairs can easily be done in the long run!!

as for you driving up here it wouldn’t be that much gas.... maybe it would but first we need to find a proper boat and trailer....
