New cars: are they as impossible as they seem for cartopping?

I read through all of the 5 pages of posts in this thread, am totally confused, and could use some help. I am unusure whether my 2023 Subaru Forester will negatively react to tie downs especially in the front and perhaps even in the back.

Am I going to cause potential harm for the electronics and sensors by transporting a canoe safely?

My 2023 Crosstrek with EyeSight sensors has never complained about bow or stern tie downs over several thousand miles of driving with the canoe on top.

And you can always turn those sensors off if your vehicle does.

Our 2023 Crosstrek hasn't had problems with tie-downs but the sensors do occasionally get confused by rain/fog or high contrast between direct sunlight and deep shade. A warning comes on that says it's been disabled but give it 10 to 30 seconds and it's good to go.

I am obviously unaware of features on my Subaru. How would I temporarily turn off those sensors either in advance or in response to a warning?

my daughter has carried both of my canoes on her crosstrek (sounds weird saying that after getting rid of my 1/2 dozen teaching boats) with no issues at all other than it reading slightly cooler than ambient because of the boats shading the temperature sensor, and the headlights coming on during heavily overcast days when they should probably be on anyway because her blue/grey paintjob blends into the haze, the bigger headache (literally) is constantly trying to decapitate myself on her low slung 2x4 rack extensions...

I have many hundreds of canoe miles carrying canoes overhead with bow tie downs, a 34' voyageur, 23' C4, and a few different solos (only one at a time) on the roof of my 2024 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Never had a problem with the Eyesight system behaving properly any more than otherwise when it objects to wet road conditions, or poor or faded road line markings. There probably is a system setting to turn it off if you look hard enough, but I have had no need to look for it or to complain.

I do notice when I have a carbon canoe overhead, that satellite radio reception suffers when traveling in certain directions. Not so much with a kevlar or wood canoe.
