Mark your calendars!
June 7-9, 2024

Ahoy, canoe enthusiasts! Plans are quietly underway for the 2024 Maine Canoe Symposium, taking place June 7th, 8th, and 9th at the scenic Camp Caribou in Winslow, Maine. This year, we're setting up camp at a new location, offering fresh opportunities for workshops, presentations, and camaraderie amongst fellow paddlers.
Expect a relaxed pace, with presentations and workshops spanning across all three days and ample time to paddle and socialize. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or just dipping your toes in, the symposium offers something for everyone. We'll share knowledge, hone skills, and build lasting connections around our shared love of Maine and canoeing.
Keep an eye peeled for further details in the coming months, and we look forward to welcoming you to Camp Caribou for a weekend of tranquil immersion in the world of canoeing.

Time on the water

Jumpstart your summer paddling adventures by spending the weekend practicing your paddle strokes with Registered Maine Guides.

Camp in comfort

Don't let bugs and bad weather ruin your family canoe trip. At the Maine Canoe Symposium, you can learn how to build a fire to keep bugs at bay, set a tarp to keep you dry, and rest easy knowing that you can handle just about anything that mother nature sends your way.

Make friends and learn about new places

If you love adventure, spending time in nature, or simply unplugging and chatting with interesting folk. Come spend with weekend with us at the Maine Canoe Symposium.

Registration will open in mid-to-late February.

More about Camp Caribou

About an hour's drive from Portland, and just off 1-95, Camp Caribou's 200-acre peninsula is situated on the northern end of Pattee Pond in Winslow Maine.
For the first time since 2019, we're welcoming folks to join us on Friday for dinner and an evening presentation.

I can't wait to meet Goonstroke, who is talking about my favorite subject: Obscure Canoe Routes in Maine. I'll be presenting a loop trip poling up the East Machias and snubbing down the Machias, among other things. We will have a lot to talk about.

This year's trip is going light on old portage trails, after Fanny Hardy Eckstorm's "Dobsis Carry" followed by the Gassabius Portage just about killed me. I discovered I had a Lyme disease induced fever after I hucked all my gear through swamps and puckerbrush on a 95 degree day.

I enjoyed a short paddle and the YCGTFH presentation on friday evening before having to leave. It was well past my bedtime and I had an hour of driving to get home, otherwise I'd have managed to introduce myself to @goonstroke et al. before ducking out (I was the unkempt loner with a green hat).

Thanks again to @Flip for working out a way for me to briefly attend.

It was great to meet you guys (and almost meet you @gadabyte)! This was only my second MCS, but it's such a great group of people that I know I'll be back. So many great conversations. Also, not only does @Benson Gray know every rib in the Old Town back catalog, he also knows which HDMI cables actually work (thanks man!).

I thought the new venue (Camp Caribou in Winslow) was great, I hope they're able to continue there. Thanks again @Flip, organizing something like this looks hard and is doubtless harder.

If anyone here was there and is using a non-obvious handle, by all means chime in, unless you're in deep stealth mode with a blacklite Bell and dark glasses.

I am sorry I was unable to attend. I had planned to but a friend called on me to help caulk and hang the rudder on his 65’ schooner build. I came to his aid. Not quite on the scale of canoes.
