I have no idea how I managed to camp without using this stuff before. Last week I purchased 300ft of 7/64" Amsteel Blue rope and a spool of Zing-It 1.75 throw line. Both are hollow core woven rope made with Dyneema and is crazy strong for it's size and has almost zero stretch. The Zing-It is good for 500 pounds while the Amsteel has a whopping rating of 1600 pounds (actually it may be 1600kg)

I spent all evening splicing this stuff to make loops at the ends of the ropes and back splicing the ends to avoid fraying. It is quite easy with just a little bit of practice. I now carry more rope at three times the breaking strength and 1/4 the weight and volume. Along with the rope I bought a couple of things called stingers from a company called Dutch Wear. This guy Dutch makes all sorts of little clips and hook out of Titanium that aid in tarp and hammock hanging.

There are a tonne of videos out there showing how all this stuff works. Here's a few...

I bought my rope from Redden Marine http://www.reddenmarine.com/samson-rope-amsteel-blue-foot.html shipping was fast and had no trouble shipping it to Canada. I got the Zing it from the same place.

The Dutch Ware is available at http://www.dutchwaregear.com

I know some of this is old hat for some of you, as a matter of fact I got most of it from hammock forums which was recommended by several people here, but for others this could be an epiphany like it was for me.

That looks like great stuff. The first time I set up a tarp with it, for sure I'd clothesline myself.

I use both of those ropes for my hammock as well. Incredible stuff. Hammockforums is a great website with tons of info. Make some woopie slings for your hammock, they work great.

I haven't made the switch yet for my hammock setup.

+1 on Dutchware and not just for hammock gear.
