The best weather I’ve ever had on trip. 6 Days 5 nights, Beautiful sunny days, moonlit nights and no rain. I left on Tuesday September 6th for Caucomgomoc Lake looking to access the Rowe Throughfare site, last name thing. All the sites at Caucomgomoc Landing and the Dam were taken and I couldn’t find Rowe Throughfare by road so I pushed on up to Round Pond. I‘m glad I did the site had the best moon view‘s you could ask for. I spent all 5 nights there, the first full day I canoed Round Pond down Ciss Stream into Caucomgomoc Lake, fished a bit, never made it Rowe Pond! The next day I decided to do the walk up to Allagash Lake to see what a full portage would be, 3 plus miles. Nice walk, not sure I want to do it with gear and a canoe. The next day I paddled and fished Round Pond and relaxed. On Saturday I decided to once again go to Allagash Lake (I drove to the iron gate this time) I climbed up to the firetower on Allagash Mountain, what a spectacular view from there. It’s only a mile but a steep climb and I recommend walking sticks. After the climb down I had a refreshing dip in Allagash Lake. i think I’ll do Allagash lake but not the 3 mile portage just the mile or so one from the gate. On Sunday morning I packed up and headed south, what a fantastic trip.

Yea, that was some nice weather. I really like Poland Pond up above Round Pond. How was that climb up into the fire tower, looks a little sketchy?

Didn’t try making it up to Poland Pond. The climb was steep, but if you take your time well worth the effort.

Nice concise trip report and photos, Ruttrowe. Maine has been getting a lot of attention this season.

@Ruttrowe if you make it back to the area, paddle into Daggett Pond. I have never seen as many moose (and Great Blue's) in that small section of Ciss Stream.
The carry up to Shallow Pond from Daggett is fun (not maintained) and if you do it at the end of July/beginning of August, there are a lot of wild orchids on that carry.
The Dam at the outflow of Poland Pond broke a couple of years back so that has most likely changed a lot.

Late to the game but the walk to Allagash Lake from the gate is entirely cartable.. The ranger will allow you to cross his property.. The Carry Trail diverges shortly before the Ranger house but its less than fun with a cart. It took us some 40 min with two lighter solos on a swedish cart. that lake is awesome.
