I sure hope Hogan posts some of our pics ... They are real nice. We spent some real soggy days on creeks, rivers, small and large lakes traveling north from Kawishiwi Lake, to Malberg and back. It rained for 7 of 9 days ... Kinda a bummer! The walleye fishing was ok, jigging proved to be the besy method to connect on the walleyes. Also, a tarp a smudge was a necessity for dealing with the bugs. Once on Malberg, the Lake rose over two feet in about 4 days. We did have 2 nice sun filled days, those made the trip. We had an Eagle at the bottom of a falls grab a fish and right pass Hogan and myself - right in front of our faces! Also, we saw a moose driving in, and then on our last day we saw a moose swimming across Pollly Lake ...it was so awesome!

We saw very few people, and the beauty of the wilderness was spectacular. Even with all rain, it was a fun trip.

Bob.

Sounds like you made the best of it in spite of the rain, I'm looking forward to some pictures.

I will try to add pics, I am still learning IMGUR as photobucket and I do not get along so well. Here goes ...

Great pictures and some nice canoes. I really enjoy getting up to the BWCA, never been in the Summer. Thanks for posting, I really like the one with the lone canoe and storm front coming. Barry

Thanks Barry, I really like that one as well. The picture does not do the front justice, it was not only huge, it could have been dangerous. There was a lot of lightening and the rain was biblical. We tried to paddle thought to the next port as we were in a burned area and no trees were safe for a tarp and the ground was all marsh ... we had to pull-over and stand on bull rushes to empty the water out of the canoes as they could not keep proper trim with all the rain water in the bilge. Man it rained hard! The planks in my canoe eventually warped because of all the water in it. It is much better now, but still is a bit wavy.

Hi Bob,
I enjoyed those pictures too, I agree, that one with the storm front heading in is very dramatic, says alot about being out there and what can happen. You can feel the change coming!
And that first picture of your canoe is very nice, makes me long for the trail. Not long now.
Thanks for posting them.

Fantastic pics. Really liked the one with the storm front coming in...such a great composition with the canoe dwarfed by the awesome landscape. It really captured the magnitude of that storm barreling down.

Here's my photos from the BWCA trip to add to Bob B's trip report.

Bob B knows how to catch walleyes!!

Bob B resting from catching all those walleyes.

Poor photo of a moose swimming across the channel in front of us.

This is what came after Bob's storm front photo.

River running along the portage.

I have got to start planning a trip up north. Such beautiful wilderness!

Hogan, great pics man ... Seems so long ago we triped together, with football and making wood arrows for my longbow I only day paddle now. I miss the wilderness deeply. I loved seeing your pics man, brought back more memories!

I will keep a good thought for Donna :)

Drift Wood,

I forgot to offer congratulations and thanks! Best of luck with the site! This is a great place to talk all things canoe tripping, I sure love it. Some of my best friends were made through this tight community of paddlers.

Regards,

Bob.
