Here are a few pics of my latest build.
The Bruce Kunz designed 38 Spl. With a Bobbed tail.



I Bobbed the tail, to eliminate an extra splice, in the strips.

Here are the Scissor stands, I made to lift the canoe, so I can apply Watco, without the need to mask anything. They also eliminate the Watco from running down the sides. Gravity can be your friend !



My new seats. After all these years, I've finally evolved, to a better seat design. Allows me to shift my weight, for trim, and still be comfortable.

As soon as the three coats of Watco dry ( Likely a month ) I'll get a scale on it.
3/16" strips. 4 oz S-glass. No Flotation. ( Big mistake! ). Bottom is double layered by adding 6 oz E-glass to about the 3" waterline.

As promised.
I had time this AM, to set up the digital scale.

The Bob Tail, weighs in at 45# even.
That is 9# heavier, than the Kevlar copy ( 36# ), that has aluminum gunnels, plastic end caps, flotation chambers, and the same seat design.

That's a thing of beauty! If you had bob tailed it the other way, you could have put a little motor on it. An old 2 horse evinrude would look real good on it!

Ha ! I did entertain the motor idea, but then I would have needed to rig a steering system, from the seat.

I did clamp an electric trolling motor on, just to see what it looked like.

Maybe someday, I will build as you did, a dedicated, square stern !

I've been intrigued with them !
I do have a 2hp, Evinrude hiding somewhere.

Looks great (as always). Building stemless, did you reinforce the joint between the sides & the bob with anything other than a little extra glass?

Overlapping, the cloth, first one side, then the other.
That's all I've ever done. That's all that is needed., unless you have an open area, without cloth.

Remember the strips are beveled, with a wide face, and glued together.
With bead and cove ? They are also slightly notched, interlocking them together.

I put two bias cut layers over the stems.

So where the stems meet the keel, there is actually 4 layers of cloth, main layer, extra layer of the football, and the two bias strips that extend, at least a foot, into the keel.
This is the area, that gets the most abuse.
I always wet foot exit, and enter.
