    What's your best dehydrated meal?

I like Knorr cheddar broccoli rice sidekick with additional dehydrated veggies and a clover leaf tuna pouch. Another favourite is instant mashed potatoes (doctored with garlic and other spices), dehydrated veggies and dehydrated hamburger or even rehydrated homemade beef jerky or sliced up...

    Rope Recommendations

For tarp ridge lines, I use 6mm static cord, which has a tensile strength of around 700 lb. The benefit of static cord vs paracord is that static cord does not stretch...

    Wife’s New Car

Back in August, I was looking to replaced my 1996 Land Rover Discovery. I figured it was going to be hard to replace given how much stuff I can put in, put on top, and pull with the Disco. I ended up buying a 2022 Toyota Rav4. Somewhat surprisingly, it can hold almost as much as the Disco...

Candle Lantern: Safely use in a tent? How to clean?

Yes, a candle lantern can be used safely. Camping in late autumn/early winter, I use my UCO candle lantern in my 4 season tent just before going to bed and first thing in the morning to add a bit of warmth and to remove condensation, it does the job.

Your three favorite pieces of comfort or luxury canoe camping gear

I thought about writing down Whiskey (or Whisky, depending if it is Irish or Scotch) as a luxury, but it feels more like a necessity :)

Your three favorite pieces of comfort or luxury canoe camping gear

Big Agnes Big Six Camp Chair. It took a while to finally pull the trigger on this chair because of the price, but once I sat in it, wow, it is so comfortable and sturdy and when packed away it is only marginally larger than much smaller chairs. Insulated Camp Chair Cover for the Big Six Camp...

Bugs in Tent: How to keep them out, kill, or tolerate them?

I too use the butane canister-powered Thermacell. The great thing about the butane canister-powered Thermacell is that a butane canister this is no longer of any use with a stove can 'power' the Thermacell for many, many hours.

    Pocket Coffee

My Brother-in-Law gave me an AeroPress for Christmas as dozen years ago. I use it at home and in the backwoods; its very portable and makes a great cup off coffee. https://aeropress.com/products/aeropress-coffee-maker

I recently spent over a week paddling the French River and Manmade's boxer briefs worked out really well in terms of made from a synthetic fabric that dries quickly. https://manmadebrand.com/

    Campfire Pizza

This is a gluten-free pizza (my wife is celiac) that we made during a stay at Killbear Provincial Park last week. The bottom was nicely browned and a bit of browning of the crust on the top, which is very difficult to do with a gluten-free crust. My wife and I both agree that the Outback Oven...

    Campfire Pizza

We make pizza using our Outback Oven, it turns out so good! We too use real pizza dough, and we make sure to bring along Chris Brothers Hot Pepperoni and Barbours pizza spice (tastes of home). Naan breads make for a good pizza crust as well.

    Cheap stove alternative.

I couple of years ago I bought one of those inexpensive/cheap butane canister stoves from amazon and/or temu and it does work very well, but then I started wondering, is it a UL approved fuel-burning appliance? Nope. Is it safe to use? What standard was it built to?

    Hatchet or Saw?

I don't like these axe throwing events/outings/establishments because I was taught by my Grandfather to treat an axe with caution because it can be a dangerous tool if not used properly and with your full attention.

    Hatchet or Saw?

I like to carry a Silky pocketboy and an Alder scout axe. Both are effective, efficient tools and they do not take up much space, nor weigh very much.
