Was the design done by hand or is there some type of template or stencil used that the paint can be sprayed on? And the sail rigging was that a one off or a production rigging available?

Process is essentially like fiberglassing only the cloth is canvas. I’m thinking I’m going to try the mastic filler route. I noticed that Island Falls Canoe has a mastic filler available as well as the traditional filler.

Quite a finish difference between the Interlux and Epifanes! I’m not afraid of color if you don’t like it you can always change. Any experience with George Kirby paints?

Project update. My shop really isn’t big enough to stretch canvas in so I’m work on new gunwales. Picked up a 16‘+ a bit piece of ash from Days Hardwood in Freeport Maine. Roughed out the gunwales and keel as well. Pretty sure the original gunwales were mahogany and keel was white oak, the ash...

Thanks. Interesting the various types of applications available today. I’m trying sift through them all before deciding which one to do.

Poll: How old were you when you got YOUR OWN first canoe (and what was it)?

Late 40’s. After I totaled a 17’ grumman in a first for me white water trip with a buddy I picked up a used OT Discovery 174, slides over rocks much better than the grumman. Since then I’ve replaced the Grumman which stays on the pond now! I have also acquired a OT tripper an OT Discovery 164...
