    Solo seat

I have some 5gal collapsible water jugs I'm going to use for ballast when I move the middle seat back

    Solo seat

so I called wenonah today and spoke to Alison. I pretty much had it figured out already- add weight/ballast to the front. Ideally enough tp paddle from the stern, but reduce weight if I move forward.

I think throwing some weight in the bow is going to be a must also

    Solo seat

getting my feet caught under a low seat, upside down in the water doesn't sound like a good time. I'll try this out tomorrow and if it feels tippy I'll drop it 2"

    Solo seat

I have them but I figured I'd try this first. I'm a bit worried if I lower it I won't be able to tuck my feet under the seat to kneel. I used the rear hole from the yoke for the front hole of the seat, it's the extra huge/heavy duty seat from eds.

I put in the solo seat today from Eds'. I was a bit paranoid cutting and drilling but I think I managed ok

    Ed's Canoe Parts

I just ordered the EXTRA HAVE DUTY EXTREME seat to replace the yoke in mine (yes I'm joking about the name). The guy I spoke to was very helpful.

    drop in seat

HA! I never thought of removing the yoke ! I only use it for loading, unloading. That sounds like an option for sure ! Thanks Years of martial arts and age has taken it's toll on my knees. They're not bad, but I'm not as young as I once was. I like the idea on a kneeling thwart but I don't think...

    drop in seat

I don't care about ugly (obviously, look at me ) I just care if it works or doesn't. I thought it looked a bit wonky but I figured first hand knowledge is better than buying junk. A saddle looks interesting, maybe a kneeling thwart if it's ok on bad knees and strong enough to take enough weight...

tell me about this "saddle". How comfortable are they ? easy to put in/take out ?

    drop in seat

I have no choice, there will be times I need to solo my spirit II. What do you folks think of the spring creek drop in seat ?

Opinions on one man, small shop paddle makers

UPDATE: the Hunter and Harris paddle came today. Again I'll get photos out but there are a few differences , probably styalistic, between the two I have. I notices it was very dry so I'm hitting with some boiled linseed oil

BTW, my paddle from canada still isn't here- it's a week late. The maker sent me an email because they track their packages and told me if it's not here by tomorrow they're refunding me the shipping. That's pretty nice considering it's not their fault.

talking to him that was his issue with making paddles, he's making minimum wage. Honestly it's a pretty common problem with craftsman, they do great work that's underpriced because they're terrible at self advertising.
