    In The Field Canoe Repair

I was on a river trip a few weeks ago and put some impressive cracks in a fiberglass canoe when it wrapped on a rock just after cutting it out of a sweeper. I had Gorilla Duct Tape to keep it going till camp that night. I had a small fiberglass repair kit from MEC and was about to open it up but...

    Square fry pan

I agree about the space wastage. I bought a rectangular aluminum griddle last year at Canadian Tire. Its not as good as the cast iron ones, but I can do a 1/2lb of bacon or 6 eggs at once. It's downside is that it covers both burners. I'm now on the lookout for a square cast iron griddle or...

LL Bean return experience-Good and better than Good

My sisters and I gave my Dad a pair of 6" Bean Boots for Christmas back in the late '80s. He wore them a lot for 10 or so years and my Aunt suggested he send them to LL Bean for new soles. He paid the shipping and it was absolutely free. He died in '05 and the boots were still in great...

    What are you reading?

I've been reading the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey/Maturin series since Christmas. This'll be about my fourth or fifth time through them in the past 20 years. Before Christmas I was reading all the canoeing books I could find at the library; to many to remember titles but I'll be revisiting some of...

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I had no idea SW Paddlers NS existed until I saw this. Many thanks.

    Little Tobique River, New Brunswick

I stream fished portions of the Little Tobique back in the early '80s. Lovely river. I bugged my father about canoeing it but he had no interest in river running. Thanks for reminding me about this river. I think I'm going to look at it for a trip with my son.

    First Paddle of the Season

Boys oh boys it must be nice to be able to get out this early in the year. On the plus side, if the weather holds, the ice will be out soon and I'll get to canoe in March for the first time in my life.

    A wave of my paddle

I love the Nashwaak. The only word for it is pastoral. Your friend lives in one of the best and underrated canoe areas in the country. An hour in any direction takes your pal to numerous fantastic river runs.

    A wave of my paddle

On Sat I went to a canoe/kayak store near me that I'd never visited before. They were GIVEN a 1930s vintage 16' Chestnut Pal by a guy who "had it laying around." They just finished restoring it. Drool. The plant shut down when I was a kid and Dad never had the money for a cedar canvass but in...

    Too much gear?

I applied ultra light backpacking methodology to canoe camping when I started going further into the back country and encountering more portages. I quickly realized though that I can add a few luxury items and still be portage comfortably. Full size camp chair and a Peak 1 Lantern are my big...

    A wave of my paddle

Thanks guys. Was hoping there'd be some local talent here! I've got trips planned this year on the Musquodoboit and Liscomb Rivers in NS, and so far one back country at Keji and a four day trip at Algonquin Park. Am looking at doing a trip in NB as well (possibly the Magaguadavic River).

    Am I too hardcore?

In 2012 I was on vacation in Ottawa. My friends gave me their canoe so I got some foam blocks and rope and put it on top of my YARIS!!! I got a lot of strange looks, thumbs up and horn honks as I traveled through Quebec and New Brunswick back to Nova Scotia. Some friends asked my why I'd do such...

    A wave of my paddle

Hi all, I'm from New Brunswick originally and learned to canoe there from my Dad and one of my Scout Leaders growing up. I currently live in Nova Scotia and am enjoying passing the love on to my own son. Can't wait to see what's here and to learn some more.
