    Paddle - varnish vs oil

I use both. I use spar varnish on the blade and Watco oil on the shaft. I tape off the blade/shaft transition area before varnishing. It gives a nice sharp line where the varnish ends. Then I oil the shaft

    My first wanigan experience

I have never used a wannigan but I imagine that it just has a traditional, almost romance feel to it. Some of the new gear is better than the old, some is not, some is just different, and some is virtually the same. The difference being that the traditional gear has a better aesthetic that can...

    My first wanigan experience

How do you use your packbasket? I use mine to carry water bottles, fuel bottles, stove, kitchen gear, lantern if I take it etc. I always get compliments and questions about it. One ranger in Algonquin who came into camp to check permits, was very intrigued by it. Incidentally I made the...

    Duluth style packs

Wow,$375. I bought my Duluth Pack #321 in the late 90's for around $95. The #321 is the same as a #3 but it is 18oz canvas with a double bottom, and it has 1" straps instead of 3/4" straps. If I remember right, it was about a $15 upcharge over the #3

So, what old item do you still use?

You just jogged my memory. I also have an old EMS item from the mid 70's. It's a fanny pack that I still use on occasion. I use it to store some tree climbing gear, more than use it as a fanny pack

Cheap single burner stove for a chuck box?

I'm confused. On the OCP site, there is a generator that looks like it generator for a 400, but it says that it will not fit. What is this 400b adaptor that you speak of?

Cheap single burner stove for a chuck box?

The Peak1 400 and 400A are the better versions of the Peak1 stoves because of the flame control lever. The problem is that they don't make generators for them anymore, and nothing else can be used as a substitute

The first time paddling was when I was 13 or 14. I went on vacation to the Muskoka region of Ontario with neighbors. I don't know the brand, but it was a yellow fiberglass canoe and I thought it was great
