    Nice story

On the way to Marshall Lake a few years ago, my son and I hit a moose in our vehicle about a half hour away from Geraldton. I had made arrangements to meet someone that I had never met, just talked to a few times via email, in Geraldton the next day. I called to let him know that we would not be...

    Square Barrels VS Round Barrels

My son and I were just complaining about how our round barrels dig in to our spines on long carries and wondering why no one ever contoured at least one side for the shape of a back. These look better than round.

    Favourite fish recipe

My all time favourite is taking a good quality wild rice soup such as "Shore Lunch", cutting the fish into chucks and turning it into a fish chowder. I have loved this with any type of fish that I have tried.

Last gear purchase(s) that made a real difference?

It doesn't go on every trip, but during bug season, I never leave on a trip without my Eureka Parawing VCS 16! Up in northern Ontario where the mosquitoes sound like someone is running a generator, I am so thankful for that thin piece of bug mesh keeping them at bay!

    Headlamps

I got one of these Princetontec Bytes a couple years ago. Very small and light, good brightness. My favourite part is that it starts on the red light. Many others that I have tried you blind yourself rotating through the white options before you get to the red light.

WTB Souris River Quetico 17 or 18.5

Anyone have any experience buying from the Portage Store. They are significantly cheaper than Killarney but are they beat to heck?

WTB Souris River Quetico 17 or 18.5

I have a friend looking to buy a 17 or 18.5 Souris River Quetico. He is willing to drive 3-4 hours from Barrie Ontario. If you know of anyone selling theirs, please forward their contact information. Thanks.

    Mac and Cheese powders?

I did not even think about Knorr. That is a great idea. I tried the Bulk Barn stuff last year and was not very impressed. I think it had been sitting in the bin a long time. It tasted very stale. Frozentripper what kind of cheese do you add on top of your Capellini?

    Mac and Cheese powders?

It appears that Amazon Ca offers it as well. Which powdered cheese have you tried? Big Daddy or Cheddar?

    Mac and Cheese powders?

In the off season I think a lot about how to make my meals better. Today I am thinking about Mac and Cheese. Has anyone in Canada found a good dried Mac and Cheese powder to use? Currently I just use a pack of Kraft cheese powder from a KD box.

What kinds of dry meats do people bring?

I stopped by my local Polish deli last night to try a few dry sausages out. They did not have Landjaeger but I tried a Kabanos, Hunters and Cabal that the owner said would do well. All were great in my Zatarain's Jambalaya mix! The Cabal had a smoky paprika kind of flavour and the other two...

    Second hand book store finds........

I have had great luck at our local Value Village and Goodwill stores for canoeing books. I have found Hap Wilson's: Temagami a Wilderness Paradise, and Kevin Callan's: Top 50 Canoe Routes, Killarney and the French River, Ontario's Lost Canoe Routes, Quetico and Beyond, Cottage Country, Gone...

What kinds of dry meats do people bring?

Odyssey I am not very good with some culinary terms. After a brief look on the net it looks like charcuterie is the name given to a technique of preserving meats. Is a charcuterie spread a mix of dry cured meat and dry cheese puree or a term for a layout out these two separate foods? Landjager...
