    Video: A Bit More

Satisfying...and surprising; as discovering that one of the best meals you had ever eaten was made from leftovers. No one cooks up better vids than you. Thanks.

    Can a Mercedes-Benz E350 be a canoe car?

This thread flashes me back to when my teenage daughter was getting her first "real" dog (previous pets had always been taken care of by Mama & Daddy). As she looked over the puppies she would say "What do you think my pals will think about this one?" Daddy: Are your pals going to pay for the...

    Can a Mercedes-Benz E350 be a canoe car?

You're answer depends on what you're looking for. Back in the 70's a 17'er on top of a Carmen Ghia got me a date with Anita Fariolini.

    Tick removal

BV, the tick key works fine. However you can take a pull tab from your favorite refreshing beverage and with a couple of quick tweeks make your own tick key. As such, my buddy, Oley, considers the discovery of a tick a good reason for enjoying a cold beer! Doc.

Ford confirms Ranger, Bronco, will return 2019

No Title I've been fortunate with my Toyotas over the years but round about the new millennium I began to realize that I was needing more room for my decreasing flexibility (ahem). I purchased this Ford in 2005 from a company that had ordered a fleet of 20 basic units. 19 were the expected...

    Russell Green River Knives

Your a gifted man, Odyssey. Anyway ... I'm gonna make eggs, biscuits, and sausage gravy for lunch, then clean the kitchen, then run the vacuum, then watch the football game on TV while holding a Jack London novel in my lap. And I'm out. Doc.

    Russell Green River Knives

"... just because it's a sentimental favorite." Good point Odyssey. There should be a small allowance for a piece of gear that is more "old friend" than "tool".

    Russell Green River Knives

B.B., I'm one of those Ph.D. guys. And there is ample evidence of the compensation myth. I know, I camped/hunted/paddled with them -- once! Canotrouge, I carry a Winchester Scout 30-30, open iron sights.

    Russell Green River Knives

I had a Russell Green River knife a few years ago. 2nd time out the blade just broke in half while notching wood. It didn't fit me well anyway so I gave it a "hmmph!" and went to the knife drawer. Interestingly I've been using my 23 year-old Buck Mini Mentor a whole lot lately. The blade is only...

    Ferro rods...

Jim, In your assembly process, are you burning the end of your new unused waxed jute/wick with a lighter? You need to do this once for each wick otherwise it will not fluff properly. Doc.

    Ferro rods...

As an afterthought: I frequently use oil lamp wicks soaked in beeswax as fire starter. I cut them to about 2 inches long, burn the ends then snuff them out. The burnt end then fluffs and takes a Ferro spark. You can hold it like a match to light your fire then extinguish. You can get several...

Trips planned for 2017 What is everyone planning

I'm planning on paddling the entire length of the Pascagoula River basin, end of March - beginning of April. It is the last unchecked, unchannelized, unimpeded (no dams) river system in the lower 48. I will be paddling across more than a third of the State of Mississippi, ending up in the Gulf of...

Canotrouge, I'm guessing turpentine is turpentine is turpentine. The pure gum spirits is simply what my local hardware man stocks. If anybody knows any difference, that would be helpful to know. Doc

    Ferro rods...

Southcove, I use a 2-1-1 parts mixture of white beeswax - boiled linseed oil - and pure gum spirits turpentine. Melt the wax, slowly mix in oil & turp, let it set up. If I'm wp canvas cloth I'm a little more generous with the oil in the mix; makes for a smoother, easier spreading paste on...
