    St. John River, Maine

https://www.allagashcanoetrips.com/ Here is the outfitter that I have used multiple times and highly recommend. A few of you have asked about paddling the St. John solo. One of our guides did it but he is an exceptional paddler. I would not recommend it for most paddlers on the St. John or the...

    The Brigade TV show

https://www.adventuresportsnetwork.com/sport/paddle-sports/canoe-kayak/heres-everything-we-know-about-the-new-paddling-reality-show-the-brigade/ This TV series can be seen for free on the Outdoor Channel. It’s a modern day re-enactment of the fur traders route.

    New 1997 OT Appalachian

Here it is after 3 hours of detailing. The original owners were using this river runner as a lake boat so there it little wear on the hull. I have no experience with the Appalachian so I’d appreciate some input on what to expect using it solo and tandem.

Free packs listed on Craigslist NYC if anybody is interested. Can anybody identify or tell us about this style?

    St. John River, Maine

Running Big Rapids in a 20 foot Tripper XL was a good experience. I’m a fan of big canoes when tripping with gear etc.

    St. John River, Maine

Big Rapids was running pretty high. Going into the ice cold water was not an option. We ran it on river right. Everybody made it OK but we did take on some water.

    St. John River, Maine

Just did the St. John two weeks ago. With cold weather, wind and rain it was a challenge.

    Nova Craft Painter Eyes

This is what the inside looks like. A small plate and locking nut. I'm just not sure this would take a lot of stress. The canoe is the new Tuff Stuff layup.

    Nova Craft Painter Eyes

For serious lining I use a lining bridle. My question is: for light lining or for an anchor point would you trust using these painter eyes?

    Kelty Mirada Tarp Shelter

Just bought this and started doing some experimentation. Not designed to have the front closed but by adding an extra guy line you can partially close the front if desired. I paid just a little over $100 so I call it a "poor mans CCS Lean Shelter".

    Big Canoes

prospector-18 The 18' version in tuff stuff has a listed weight of 68 lbs. I feel that this is a managable weight for a big tandem. Lighter than the OT 17'2" Tripper which is listed at 80 lbs.

    Big Canoes

Who else is in favor of large canoe for tandem tripping? I find that they provide not only space but a sense of security on large lakes and rivers. Here are some photos of my new Nova Craft 18' Prospector in the tuff stuff lay up.

    DownEast magazine Allagash Feature

I had the pleasure of being a part of this trip. The feature does a great job of capturing the Spirit of the Allagash.

    Xtratuf Boots

At this point there is not any brand of rubber boot made in the USA. This also holds true for most of the clothing and footwear we all wear.

    Xtratuf Boots

No Title I heard about the quality problems they had when they initially moved overseas. From more recent reviews it appears that they have improved their quality control. Filson now features a version made for them. More expensive but a darker color that might matter to hunters or photographers.

    Xtratuf Boots

Has anybody tried these for canoeing? They seem to be popular is Alaska and other cold wet places. Any luck with fitting them under the seat when kneeling?
