Hi and welcome. I have two Malecites, it's a great boat. For a new experience try paddling it solo from the stern seat, with or without any added weight. I weigh around 190lbs and have been paddling all my tandems from the stern seat for the last 8 of my 50+ years of paddling.

I like the scratches. The more scratches, the more fun you've had. You can't think about scratches on your canoe like you would about them on your car. With a canoe they are inevitable. Great trip report BTW.

If you decide to raise your seat there is a happy medium. This is where you have enough room to easily get your feet out but still be able to use your feet to lock yourself into the boat. You do this with the opposing forces of your bent toes on bottom of the canoe and your heel pushing up on...

Congratulations, that appears to be a very nice canoe. Prospectors are typically pretty stable, so you may be able to raise the seat just enough that your feet won't feel like they will get trapped, but not so much to make it tippy.
