I'm assuming it hasn't been a nuisance bear for long. Usually around here, that starts when the berry crop fails or a fire drives them into civilized areas. But of course, our bears are used to being hunted, so aren't as likely to be habituated dumpster divers.

I hate using the phone for everything. I've reverted back to carrying a real camera (need a better one) and the Inreach. Both are much more rugged than any phone I would buy. Saw that. Maybe something to experiment with. The only time I've even been around something like that being used was when I saw a couple in a rubber raft fighting up-canyon wind on the Snake River. The put a bucket on a line and got more help from the current that way.

That was simply not enough boat for a rescue there.

I figured out I had to relocate my snakes pretty far to keep them from coming back. Had one uniquely deformed that kept reappearing until I delivered it to the refuge five miles away.

Actually, I think that's relevant. As I understand it, we share firefighting resources with Canada to some degree. So that should be in mind.

My friend who just came out of BWCA says he saw no smoke. With so much of Ontario on fire, I suppose this closure is partially about firefighting resources being spread pretty thin.

BC is looking good right now. Hope it holds out until mid September.
