I have used sno-seal for 50 years and have never had any leather degrade. I have a pair of LLBean Maine hunting boots that are over 40 years old that I keep the leather waterproofed with Sno-seal and the leather looks brand new. Must be armchair experts.
Erica, you could do the Yukon River from Eagle, AK to either Circle, AK or the Dalton Highway. Wild, remote, and still car accessible at the put in and take out points.
The reason I recommend the kindle version is so that you don’t have to wait for a book from Amazon. The last order I made with Amazon took a month for them to ship out the order and that was using Amazon Prime. The post office delivered my order in 3 days.

Most knives that I see today do not have a good sheath. The leather is thinner than it should be and they have no way to lock the knife into the sheath. Buck Knives has some of the best sheaths I have seen. Nice thick leather and a strap that snaps around the handle to keep the knife from coming...
I built my own removable portage yoke. Where the yoke sets on the gunnels, I padded the wood and clamp brackets with leather. It eliminated the slippage along the gunnels.
I have carried a knife since 1960. I have traveled through 48 States, 4 Provinces and 1 Territory and I have never heard of a sheath knife cutting through a sheath and injuring the carrier in a fall.
