I'm not sure what the issue is... I've been building with 3/16 inch strips and cutting the bead & cove with 1/4 inch bits. I just make sure that the strip is centered in the bit & then be careful with the cove edges (because they go all the way to paper thin). Granted, maybe I'm doing it...

An acquaintance in South Carolina has recently come into possession of an old canoe and some wooden paddles. I'm still waiting for good pictures of the canoe (which he also needs help identifying) but the paddle pictures seemed clear enough to get started. Anyone recognize the PCC marking?

The canoe was a great choice IMO and I really like seeing a young family getting into canoe camping. Hopefully, the kids will embrace it enough that they can post trip reports of extended wilderness solos when I'm too old. (gotta plan ahead, ya know)

I assumed that the paddle has a Cherry shaft. Cherry is almost pink when freshly milled and darkens with UV exposure so that, in time, the shaft & arrow will turn a rich, dark brownish red. The antler rock guard is an interesting addition. Any DIYers that want to try that will want to sand it...
