    AI compares CanoeTripping.net with P.com

This is the best moderated forum I've every participated in, in some 20 years or more of participation in forums. Thank you, Glenn. If it degenerated into being overrun by kayaks, I'd be gone in a flash. There may be people here who have kayaks, but they also have, appreciate, build, use and...

    AI compares CanoeTripping.net with P.com

I recently found and bumped up another of Alan's trip reports, but now don't remember the name of the river. It was outstanding and enjoyable too. We have I suspect a treasure trove of old trip reports that could do with another read.

    Wisconsin River

As memory has it, I think we must have started near the source because the river was very narrow through a marsh with hairpin turns. By the time we took out, it was wide and lake-like with motorboats.

    Wisconsin River

The first river trip I ever took was on the Wisconsin River as a girl scout. Today, Darren Bush of Rutabaga Sports posted what he calls a "snippet" about The River in his heart, which is the Wisconsin. I saw a part of this river, don't know which, more than 55 years ago. Has anyone paddled it...

We did that at Girl Scout camp.

    Favo(u)rite Pastries While Wilderness Canoeing

I bring some version of homemade trail mix. This year it was pecans, M&Ms, dried cranberries and coconut flakes. It hangs out in the day bag for dipping into as needed. I put mini chocolate bars in with dinners as dessert. I make pancakes instead of bannock. Whole wheat flour, powered milk...

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

I’ll just mention that my interest in purchasing a Trekker hiking staff received 3 replies. Two were scams - thank you Glenn for helping me sort that. The one from Craig’s list forwarded to me by Glenn turned out to be real and I did purchase it.

Video: HOOP clears portage trails with Silky KATANABOY and BIGBOY saws

In the video, the 1000 went through the log like butter. The 650 went back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth...just like my experience with all the handsaws.

    BIRCHBARKS IN THE UK

How exciting. What a story. I was lucky enough to see the birchbark canoe made during the Survival of the Bark Canoe. This is way more exciting. Welcome to the forum, btw. Do you post on the Song of the Paddle? I’m planning to be in London in May and will be contacting you all soon.

Video: HOOP clears portage trails with Silky KATANABOY and BIGBOY saws

The attractive feature of the Silky 1000 is how easily it cut through the 8 inch log. It was six swipes. With the 650 it was more than double that. For an aging lady, that’s a remarkable difference.

    First family trip new canoe

I love to see children out on the water. What a good idea to get a canoe!

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

I don’t think so, but it still a good one.

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

I cannot find the quote, but it was from an intrepid explorer who, when asked if he was ever afraid when wilderness tripping, answered, “Every minute.” Sometime I’ll run into that quote again and give it credit.

I just looked up the Silky 1000 on Amazon. It now is $1415.00. Yikes!

I want one! That 1000 isn’t just for length. It’s also the price.
