Photos of Animals, Fish, Birds & Bugs on a Canoe Trip

There are piebald dear around me. One summer a doe and her fawn hung out in a clearing near the power line. I think they done last long because they are too easy for predators, including human hunters, to see. This picture, not mine, looks the most like the last doe I saw.

Video: HOOP clears portage trails with Silky KATANABOY and BIGBOY saws

Excellent. The last two trips I really could have used a saw. One of these. Could fit nicely into my kit.

    Potentially promising canoe boots

I definitely need a higher than ankle boot for better support. I didn’t know leather would keep out water for short immersions. Define short, please.

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

It has to do with how you ask the question, and how willing you are to hand out clarifying questions. ChatGPT actually gave me many more suggestions, but I would have needed a DOB or some other identifying information, it takes a while to learn how to use it.

If ChatGPT doesn’t get your question, you need to provide more information. Apparently there are many Dana Grover’s in the world. Here is my question and answer: My question: Dana Grover, a male canoe maker. Information please ChatGPT said: Good question. I found a few credible...

    Mégiscane River, Québec

Megiscane - Day 4 I got up early this morning, energized by visions of actually starting this trip. I would gather all my bags together, get them in the canoe and finally get this trip going. I realized this would take a couple of hours, but I was keen to get on the water. My stuff was spread...

Candle Lantern: Safely use in a tent? How to clean?

I ordered things from Early Winters. I loved their catalogs. Personally, I’d be afraid to use a flame inside the tent. I’m just too cluttered or clumsy. But I love the look. I’ve used them in off grid cabins and sometimes in my home when the power goes out.

    What are you reading?

And right now it’s only about $4.49. I think you can start with any of the books. There’s no required reading order.

    What are you reading?

I’ve read all four of his books. I particularly like the communication and coordination exhibited by these two intrepid paddlers. I’m also partial to the botany, the walking they did, working out the challenges they faced, their appreciation for the far north. These books are not thrillers...

Video: Random Freestyle Maneuver Challenge with Mark Maier and Lennart Bal

I can’t watch freestyle without thinking of alligators. It took more than two weeks in Québec before I stopped worrying about gators in the water. It just becomes automatic. That said, it was a fun video to watch. What class and grace on the water.

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

I just looked up - the website says you can camp anywhere you want without a reservation, except the reserve campgrounds of course. That makes is more attractive if you prefer not to have to reserve a camp in advance and then follow a schedule. Looks interesting.

How much have you paddled this year?

Americans over 65 need fishing licenses in all the provinces I’ve paddled in. In Florida we still need a license, but it is free. Everyone can fish in salt water from the shore without a license.
