April thru July, 2013 - thats when I built my very first cedar strip canoe. It was one heck of an adventure, but... I don't quite have it in me, to do another one yet. Sooooo much work. Maybe some day. Until then, I'll enjoy the one I have. I'm looking forward to watching the progress and...

I haven't logged on, in a while, and now I see all these boat builds. My heart is beeting faster and faster.... haha. Very awesome pics. Those cedar strips are so tight. Amazing work. I walk past my canoe every single morning and afternoon. I seriously can't wait to get it back on the water!!!

I didn't have any wood working experience, and built my first cedar strip earlier this year. I used, Gil Gilpatrick's Building a Strip Canoe, 2nd addition. I thought it was a great reference book, and also came with free plans for 8 different canoes. http://gilgilpatrick.com/strip-canoe.html

Thank you all for the compliments!!! I am absolutely loving my new canoe. It's so stable, I can stand up in it, with no worries of tipping. Great for fly fishing! I can't wait to explore lots of lakes with the family. We have all ready hit a couple, the short time it's been completed. Oh, and...

Is this the end..... or just the beginning? Well, maybe the end of this thread anyway. 4 months later, and I am paddling a canoe I built with my own two hands. I'm not certain if I will ever believe it!!! What a journey. There were ups, there were downs, and there was plenty of cedar dust...

Darn it - sounds like my kinda place!!! It's 14.5 hours from me. Will have to stick wtih ADK, which is 4-5 hours from me.

Joe Indian was another choice, but we opted for Black Duck Hole! Very cool about the canoe shelter. As you can see in the pics - I brought my monster family tent, because I had penty of room in the canoe for amenities. Otherwise, I take my micro light tent. Small, light weight, and goes up...

Stayed at Black Duck Hole, in Dead Creek Flow. We paddled all around Dead Creek Flow, and all the way over to the South Branch as well. By the 4th day, my arms felt like limp wet spaghetti noodles! Also hiked the Olmstead path starting at the South Brach to Simmons pond.
