Fish Creek Campground - Rollins Loop

Thanks for sharing. Looked like a fun trip with a good friend. That dog bed looks super posh! Alan

    Wasioto Whitehall Build

I've never tried it but I've seen people use steam bags. Basically wrap the wood in a plastic "bag" and then insert the steam hose. Benefits are less setup/materials and you can manipulate the wood while it's in the bag being steamed. I believe DougD used this method when steaming gunwales to...

    Square Stern race

It looks like you're correct. From Mem's video I thought maybe it was just a sprint race but apparently it was just the end of a much longer race. If anyone needs help sleeping here is the full 2+ hour video of the race: Alan

    Square Stern race

That was as pretty tight race. Fun to watch. I thought #74 was going to pull back ahead at the end. Alan

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I can be a bit of a contrarian at times so the fact that no one has used it before would in itself be a desirable property. :) Alan

Good solo boat for my local Tennessee River reservoirs?

I'd recommend going as light as your budget allows. There's a good chance your 50 pound lifting limit will continue to decrease. Alan

    Must have medical items?

That doesn't appear to be the case. A short and interesting read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Bandage

    Quiet Blade Shape

What part of your stroke is causing the excessive noise? All the hunters I know prefer outboards. Alan

    Quiet Blade Shape

I've always thought my zavs were quite quiet. The blade should be quickly, and fully, buried before power is applied. Alan

Turtle Flambeau Flowage , my pup Max ‘s first trip … success!!

Like Bob I also have a Lean 1+ and I find it to be plenty big. Most of my trips have been just myself and a 30 pound dog and there is tons of room for both of us and lots of gear. It's also slept 2 people plus a dog. There was less room for gear in that case. Alan

OXBLOOD Gelcoat Nova craft repair and dynel skids?

What kind of gel coat damage are you getting? Scratches or chipping? Dynel will certainly provide you with abrasion resistance but it's going to look awful without multiple fill coats. In my experience pigmented epoxy resin used to wet out cloth is too thin to be opaque and it takes many...

Improve your boat control techniques to enhance all types of canoeing

I'm glad you reposted that. I thought it was interesting when I read it before deletion. Personally, and I think this goes for most of us, I just do what makes me happy. I have my paddling preferences and that's what I lean towards when I'm out paddling. But I do keep an open mind and I find...

    Mora knives for camp.

I have no problem using my Mora for batoning wood but I cook over a twig stove almost 100% of the time so those pieces of wood are usually 6" long and about 3" in diameter. Pretty easy work for a knife to split. Alan

Turtle Flambeau Flowage , my pup Max ‘s first trip … success!!

Congratulations on a great first trip, Max. And good job to you too, Jake, for being such a good role model. They looked in their element. Really glad it worked out for you. Alan

    Field sharpening

I take along a double sided diamond stone (coarse and fine) that folds into the handle. I couldn't find the exact one so it must not be made any more but similar to the one pictured below. I bring it along in case I get bored and want to touch up my blades mid-trip but I don't think I've ever...

I saw the post a few minutes after it was up and didn't see anything suspicious when I checked the IP address. I checked for similar listings on other forums with the same user name and didn't find anything. I'm as skeptical as anyone but I think it was legit. If a scam I wouldn't have expected...

Back to the crater (this time for real?) Manicouagan Reservoir

It would seem, depending on the direction of travel and the direction of the wind that it could be possible to do a good job of hiding from the wind depending on if you paddle from the inside or outside of the lake. I'm thinking, for example, if you're traveling east or west then you could hide...
