The most picturesque places you've paddled

My pics are not nearly as dramatic as those posted above. Exploring the springs near Crystal River Florida … ( 1st two ). Next two, Lake 5, Clam Lake Wisconsin

What is your most DISLIKED tree and why?

Well Marten, if anyone knows about huge Bullwinkle bucks it would be you!

Stay Out of the Woods in June!

I second that Martin. I have been working in the timber at my house from early am to supper - day after day. We have had biblical rain ... I grade my driveway with my tractor at least 1 time a week - often more. The mosquitos and ticks are at an all time high. I have been living in my...

    Defend your food barrel?

Like Alan, I travel with a dog. Jake is as easy going as it gets - super friendly. However when animals enter camp his demeanor changes entirely. In the BWCA near habituated bear areas he has chased away a few bears. That said, I am fortunate Jake has very good call back, he leaves the bear...

How much do you learn about an area before tripping?

Great pics and post Robin. I remember Claire well … she was amazing, full of info and always kept me up to date on fire info and the condition of the road into Leano Lake. When planning a trip I agree with ppine, knowledge is power. I study topo maps, make notes on my maps, study the...

What is your most DISLIKED tree and why?

Second on the fuzz ball annoyance. I have a deep distain for Prickly Ash. My timber is loaded with it … such a pain to walk through, log in, hunt around … ugh!

What is your favorite tree and why?

Stevet, good call on the mulberry. I forgot to add that one, Jake and I just love to eat the fruit!

What is your favorite tree and why?

Wow, tough post for me. I live in the Wisconsin timber so I have many choices. I love Red Oak as it is food for the deer and turkeys, heats my house as well as belongs to many furniture and structural items in my home. Black Walnut is a cash crop here, is beautiful wood and is the core of one...

    Keewaydin duffel bag

OK Art ... here goes. I hope this pics explain it better than my typing does. FYI ... my duffle on trips weighs in the mid sixty pounds area. When tumped it is much more manageable for me than s large pack on my shoulders and fits extremely well in my canoe.

    Keewaydin duffel bag

I take one of the tump tails and make a wrap around the bottom of the bag ( 8 inches or so up from bottom ). I bring the tail over my first make another loop and tie off. Then repeat with tail near the top of the bag. Art, I do not convey my meaning very well. I will try to take pictures this...

    Keels: Yeah or Nay?

My limited experience with keels is that they do nothing for paddling performance. Possibly May strengthen the hull or make for ease of construction? When wilderness tripping I have found keels to stick to underwater logs or rocks where other smooth bottom shallow arch canoes often act much...

What is your local day paddle?

Great post Al! It was nice to your Seliga in action again. Jake and I hit the timber early today, maintaining trails, seeding a food plot … then time for woods walk … with my bug shirt. By 10:30 both tired and hot, we sat on the couch, turned on the fan and took a fiver. This is a great post...

    Pemican

https://www.shtfpreparedness.com/homemade-pemmican-recipe/ Here is a recipie I stole from the internet. It is good in explaining the how tos. I always used ground venison in mine. After cooking the meat, I would use a strainer to wash off any left over fat, then dehydrate until it was like...

Show us pictures of your canoe vehicle with boat(s)

Sharp looking truck Robin … reminds me of my old Chevy C20 … wood bed with split rims. Oh the adventures I had in that old truck. Shinning times. Mine was older, 1969. Your 1983 brings back fond memories … good picture 😉👍

    Skillet Cornbread

Here is video on hot water cornbread. I would make a much smaller batch and use lard rather than corn oil. Also - it is a little over detailed as he is making them in his kitchen vs on a skillet in the bush - the principal is the same. Bob.
