Finding and remotely locking a lost smart phone

Apple devices have a built in feature called Find My which can give the location of any of your devices or people you share locations with. You can lock, erase the device, or place a message on the lock screen remotely. You can also make any device play a sound to help find it around the house...

Kaleidoscopic Kringelfieber 2022 (Germany) from overhead drone

Looks like fun to me! Considering the cost of getting US made canoes to Europe those are some dedicated paddlers.

1981 Mike Galt Essay: "The Solo Path"

You sometimes are asked to write about something specific but that doesn’t necessarily compromise the writer’s integrity. Was fortunate enough to take Harry Roberts down my local river in Ohio and he asked me to write about it for Paddler magazine. I was flattered and I did it with the affection...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

Canoes turn away from the heel given no countering corrective stroke. Extreme banana boats sometimes may be an exception but usually not. Run a hull level and true with no correction then heel to the right and the hull turns left.

1981 Mike Galt Essay: "The Solo Path"

Certainly do miss those days…the heyday of solo canoeing. Replete with characters, excitement over something “new” at canoe demo days, the Conclave events, and the construction of the FreeStyle instruction program (the maneuvers themselves had been done for hundreds of years or more). A more in...

    Load Stop Project

Get vinyl tubing from hardware store and cut it into 4 8” sections…split them lengthwise and put them over the gunnels where they sit on the rack….otherwise those rails will be trashed by traveling on metal racks.

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

Explorer is a legendary do it all hull. Assuming the condition of both is equal I would opt for the Mad River. Had one and it is a very comfortable canoe to paddle….instills confidence. (Plus I just like wood)!

So, what old item do you still use?

Still wear a Patagonia baggies pullover that’s got to be 25 years old…maybe more? Everglades to Algonquin and beyond. Still think it’s the best material they ever used. Of course it fits considerably tighter now😉

The “Button Club”….owners of the exquisite work by Tom MacKenzie (R). Left to right: Jim Mandle, Mrs. ? Nicholls, Arweyn Nicholls, Carol Tunnicliffe, Mary Lou Green. Mid 80s I believe. The Button was an 11 foot, 24 pound, DY designed, wood/dacron solo built as only Tom could. Personally love...

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

There’s always old school two paddles yoke…adds no weight or extra items to carry…. but I have to say I would be pretty upset after paying Swift Canoe prices to run into a problem that quickly. However, if they do say not to transport it engaged, I guess that sort of lets them off the hook.

    An extra trippy Merlin.

Fortune favors the brave. Paddle it and love it. You’ll make new acquaintances at every put in/take out ☺️ Perhaps you should name it Spliff.

Not a sponson per se…a way to attach a moveable seat and thwarts without interruption of gunnels. Also has contoured end tanks of the same material which had a leather grain effect. Beautiful canoe. Miss mine. You could also wedge your knees under them as they are contoured for it, but it is NOT...
