Are there any other states that provide a 'Lake Finder?'

New Hampshire has various pages with lake data. Here's one that is map-based: https://nhfg.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=2243091f322449819c244c0c3b2f3f43

    Tropical Storm Beryl

The local brook under immediately post-Beryl skies, and two days post-Beryl as they let all the water at Wilder dam flow down to Long Island Sound. My boats aren't going anywhere without car topping for a bit.

    Which Subaru?

Had a 21 Crosstrek, but gave it to my son. Terribly uncomfortable for me. Couldn't drive for more than 2 hours. Other than that, no real problems. Not big enough to sleep in though. And a side note. ACA membership for 6 months (maybe a year, check) gets you into the Subaru VIP program...

    1st Knife Recommendations

Gerber LST, despite being summarily dismissed in this vid, is a good little knife. Small (small enough not to need a clip), light (and light enough not to need a clip) and locking. Mine lives in my pocket, even when I have another knife on my person for some reason. But, +1 on the Swiss...

How I came to buy my canoe

Have loved the simplicity and lines of a canoe since I went to canoe camp as a kid, but never owned a boat. Always had one at our lake place, and would paddle every day when there. When I met my second wife we lived 200 miles apart, and could only see each other on weekends. Bought an OT...

    Where Are All The Canoes?

Most folks don't even know solo canoes exist, and since they paddle solo a kayak is the obvious choice. Also, canoing is more a family activity for lots of people. Mom, dad and the kids all in one boat. That describes several of my neighbors. Once the kids grow up those canoes will be...

What is your most DISLIKED tree and why?

dang. We have multiflora rose in the yard. One of my favorites. But, it will have to go on the hit list I guess. Bummer.

Stay Out of the Woods in June!

I have stumbled through what I can only describe as a nest of ticks. Hundreds it seemed like. Tiny ones. Ick.

What is your most DISLIKED tree and why?

Nope, but I bet it would. Following up on my post, when it got really loud I would often go out with a slingshot/wrist rocket and shoot back. Don't think I ever hit one, but not for lack of trying

What is your most DISLIKED tree and why?

When I was in grad school in Florida, my bedroom was under a large live oak. During the fall, squirrels would start eating acorns at the first hint of daylight, dropping many on the (uninsulated, tin) roof over my head, where they'd make a loud ping, then bounce and roll audibly down and off...

What is your favorite tree and why?

I stand corrected on my wolf trees as throwbacks to old growth: “Wolf trees are testaments to a property’s former life in agriculture. Often, farmers would leave a few nut-bearing trees to provide shade and free food to their livestock. Pasture would surround the tree, so it would grow wide...

What is your favorite tree and why?

Wolf trees. Of whatever species they happen to be. Because they are big, and are a throwback to before the forests were logged.

    Paddling deaths increased in 2023

The number of people not wearing pfds posting paddling pictures during the spring when the water was still cold, cold enough that I wouldn't paddle without at least a farmer john wetsuit along with a pfd, was a little disconcerting. I wonder how many of those deaths were during shoulder season...
