Is this route doable for a novice solo paddler?

I figure 10 to 12 miles a day in BWCA and Q, and just did 60 mi in less than 5 days in Adirondacks, and I'm 73. Souris River Tranquility - 14'-6". I think you're good but I don't know Temagami.

    Outback Fixed for Canoeists

Somehow I got lucky with my 2018. It came with rails compatible with a Thule towers and bars, which were available from dealer.

    Getting in and Getting out

This may be a better description of what I do to board Tranquility. Right foot in center of boat with left in water. Aim my butt for seat and lift left foot and let it drain before swinging it in.

    Getting in and Getting out

I use some of techniques above but find I like knee deep water. That's with Tranquility. You said Swift Prospector 14. I have same in pack version - was not sure if yours was pack. The Hornbeck video on entering and exiting their pack canoes might be helpful...

Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

Well, yeah. I meant if family or just fishing buddies.

Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

I think the question depends on group. If my group is my son and I, probably a different than 4 or more guys that get together for a trip a year.

Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

To like camp cooking, it has to be for pride and pleasing others with above average fare. I take ingredients and plan meals in the woods. I love baking and a lot more than boiling water. I respect spending time cooking and baking in camp is not everyone's cup of tea. Just as I like and look...

    Paddling in an Apocalypse

Just saw this. Not sure an apocalypse today would be survivable anywhere but I feel a little better being a mile portage to St Lawrence or 10 mile drive bridge to Canada.

Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

I prefer group. Less to carry and less trash. I did a group solo - just 2 of us - and we did our own breakfasts and lunch, but then took turns on dinners for both. It worked pretty well. I'm usually with one of my sons or a few times with a friend or client I invited, and I like food...

Esquif Adirondack vs Old Town Pack-Worth the upgrade?

I test paddled the Echo. Very comfortable and reasonably efficient. Heavy is only reason I didn't get it.

Roof rack that can hold two canoes

I'll get pic tomorrow but it's a 2018 GT that came with Thule bars (channels?) on the roof. Heres a pic from Internet:

Roof rack that can hold two canoes

I have a Thule rack on my Outback and bought the 76" bars separately. They work in same towers and are pretty easy to change. You can find a lot of roof racks at etrailer.com. Just figure out how long. I carried 2 solos from upstate NY to BWCA without any problems.

Brown Tract Portage to Lower Locks

Thank you. It seemed doable but read on NFCT facebook that someone doing whole trail took 5 days Browns Tract to Middle Saranac - and seemed a lot younger than me.

Brown Tract Portage to Lower Locks

The NFCT map on their site shows long portage to Long Lake is now 3 portages and paddle between. Roughly half portage, half paddle. Have wheels. Based on the NFCT maps only one portage not wherlable. I figured trip was 60 miles. Asking if you think an intermediate paddler can do this segment...

Brown Tract Portage to Lower Locks

I'm doing two NFCT work weekends this summer and thought I'd trip between them. Just about 60 miles, Sunday noon till Friday late afternoon. Not many portages (compared to Quetico and BWCAW). Does this stretch seem that strenuous? I'm not speed demon but thought I could do 12 miles a day...

    Triple Carry Portage techniques

Having sons helps. Does take 12 to 14 years to develop, but really beneficial later. I carry one load once, he carries 3 loads in 2 trips. I'd find low portage/no portage routes, or routes that allow portage carts.

Tour owner jailed for 10.5 years for weir drowning deaths of 4 customers

It seemed they might not have been wearing PFDs. I don't know how much that single part might make a difference in this situation. I don't believe the punishment would have been near the same in US.

    Balancing weight and durability

Ive asked the manufacturers these questions and my conclusion is the plain kevlars - kevlar fusion from swift - is less brittle than layups with carbon or integral. Yes it can be punctured perhaps a little more easily but it will flex. You want bullet proof, t-formax. If you want light weight...

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

I have a wood clamp on home for my DR Tranquility and use it to flip canoe without hesitation or any problem. I have the Swift clamp on carbon fiber home for Swift Prospector and just have to be a little careful, mostly tightening it, and very few problems. It seems the bolt on is not a cure-all.
