    Camping with no tent, hammock

Still trying to trim my load. Considering sans tent. Saves about 7lbs with footprint, vestibule, etc. I would still take my lightweight tarp. Anyone else do this for summer trips?

    Source for Canadian Maps

I’m having a hard time finding a good online source for NTS maps. I know I once had a good source, but can’t find the site. Anyone have a good current source?

Ontario Crown Land non-resident camping permits

Is the tent receipt still acceptable in lieu of a permit? Seems like a huge leap in faith to head out on a trip without a permit in advance.

    Patching Gelcoat

Added some green flakes. Seems like it will hold.

    Patching Gelcoat

I’m wondering if thickened Gflex is good for patching gouges in Gelcoat boats. The soapy, crumbly nature of the coating is what concerns me.

Load weight and trim and it's effect on stability.

The narrow bow of a tripper like a MNII can create instability without a substantial cargo load. The front paddler is often cramped and the angled hull design lends to tipsiness. It’s consistent with the purpose of the craft. That’s where a big dog actually comes n handy. You just need a...

    Invasive species carried on canoes?

Not a problem in Ohio because the water is so filthy most canoeists wash their canoes right after paddling.

Canoe Camp Closed Due to "Vandalism, Transience, and Non-Payment"

There is an entire group on Facebook dedicated to Vandalism in National Parks. Too danged depressing to join. Check it out.

    Resin, Hardener Age

The instructions also say remove all epoxy repairs. I’ve always made small repairs with epoxy and never have removed it to recoat. Does this coating not stick to hardened epoxy?

    Resin, Hardener Age

I did the math route. 473ml to a pint. Found old Instructions say 2% MEKP to resin (50:1). That’s 9.5ml from a 22ml tube of hardener, roughly 1/2 tube. Lucky I hoard old boxes. It’s a good box.

    Resin, Hardener Age

Not sure but it’s from a north star recoat kit specifying MEKP harderner.

    Resin, Hardener Age

It’s been years since I figured out the amount of hardener to use on this small can of resin. Anyone know?

    Gelcoat Crack Across Stem

Not sure where this crack came from, but it looks like it could be from hauling in wind, which I’ve done plenty recently. Any reason to worry about this? Any repair advice? I was thinking of sanding and recoating the bottom, but I’m not familiar with Gelcoat.

yeah, but how are goats in the boat?

PortagePal to carry paddles and fishing rods

Should be an AT robot with that name.

    Triple Carry Portage techniques

Only marry amazons or viking shieldmaidens. I know this takes foreplanning and a degree of youthful abstinence, but the rewards are well worth it if you’re a serious tripper.

Solo Composite Canoe that can do it all 😉

How big are you? The Encounter is a huge boat. Tall sides that catch wind. Mine was a little much for me and my kit, even with my dog along. Plus, it’s strictly a tracker, not a river boat. The Bob Special might be a better all around choice. Old thread do it probably doesn’t matter now.

The Spirit II is a nice boat for what you want.

    Single Trip Carry Portage Techniques

Plus, most of us are old guys, and old guys just ramble anyway. Of course we’re weight sensitive. Each of us is trying to stretch our tripping into our golden years, despite the atrocities inflicted by age. Single portaging is something we’ve all aspired to do. Some were good at It. I was...
