2025 Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous

I was asking myself the same thing. The weather report of rain and high wind that I heard did not look very good. It was hard to convince myself to drive the many miles to the event. I hope those that did attend did well and had a good time.

    Headwaters Canoes

It's really good to see this old school skill and knowledge used and passed along. As a wood craftsman of 27 years, I enjoy the fact that there are still people that respect the old ways.

    Cheap stove alternative.

I have several gas stoves that I have used over the years. The stoves have several different burner heads and the one that I prefer is the stove that has a burner head similar to this model. The head seems to spread the flame and heat over a larger area which suits the light weight camping pots...

Leaving for the still "frozen" North, Riviere Megiscane

Sorry, a little off topic but here's one Penguin fan with his fingers crossed for the Leafs. It's a tuff task I hope they can do it.

Lows Lake and Bog River Flow ADKs May 2025

Great report and pictures. Really enjoyed it. I was headed to Lows early this year for the first time, but got delayed by Doctor demands. I should be OK in a week or so and just as soon as I can I'm headed to Lows. I'm not sure if I'll use my canvas wall tent or my dome tent. Eather way I've...

What do you use for a table?

Great idea. This is another method I have used many times. Light weight and keeps you out of the dirt.

What is your local day paddle?

I have tired to paddle around home but it just doesn't seem the same as up in the Adirondacks. I've tired and tired but it really isn't the same, so I just keep my powder dry and try to make it up North once a month April through November. Just a few miles from home

What do you use for a table?

I hate eating, cooking and living in the dirt so I always pack a small folding 14 x 18 table to use in the kitchen. It makes living in camp a whole lot easier and a lot more conformable.

Are You Prepared to Confront Spider Bites?

I have been outdoors working and playing all my life and never really gave it a thought about insect bites. Then last year a noticed something on the back of my leg. These pictures tell the story the best. ONE DAY AFTER BITE TWO DAYS AFTER BITE AFTER TREATMENT I'm so glad I listened...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

I believe I'd go for the Mad River because of the rough water. Just my two cents.

So, what old item do you still use?

I've still got and use my old Germany Solingen camping knife that I've had since college in 1967. I can still remember the day I got it, paid the outlandish price of $ 2.00 for it. Hard to sharpen but when you do it keeps an edge forever.
