    Thigh Straps for Seated Canoeing?

I'm very unlikely to ever install (or need) thigh straps but, in the original post's picture, it appears that entrapment would not be an issue as long as the paddler remembers to straighten his/her legs. @ABT, is that correct? Do the straps simply slip off unless your legs remain bent?

    A Raven from Scratch

As always, I appreciate your input Jim and I'll try the vertical dado (as well as the upward arching spreaders) on the next seat. I will disagree about this seat's reliance upon the glue, however. The joint is very tight and, at least in my estimation, I will have to compress the wood in the...

    A Raven from Scratch

Well, the break from building was a bit longer than I'd expected but I'm back at it and ready to get this one on the water. I'd soaked, bent & glued the seat pieces while stripping the Merlin so I put the psychedelic Merlin aside, placed the Raven back on the strongback cradles, stopped at my...

Looking for river trips in OH/PA vicinity

I concur with both of the above and, likewise, have no experience with poling. Have a great trip! (pretty sure that you will)

La Vérendrye: Canada’s Largest Canoe Camping Reserve

I'm almost positive @yellowcanoe has been there as well. Pretty sure she told me I should add it to the bucket list.

    Algonquin 3-4 Day Trip?

You're welcome. He's an good writer, does a very nice job of documenting campsite reviews, etc. and I especially enjoy his newsletter "The Thunderbox"

    Algonquin 3-4 Day Trip?

I don't think @Algonquin lakes has been on for awhile but Drew's put together a pretty extensive site for helping to plan trips. Campsite reviews, portage notes, etc. His website is https://allofalgonquin.com/ if that helps.

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

I am aware but, at least to me, they just don't seem to fish the same. I guess everybody has their idiosyncrasies... I can drive a truck with 5 different colors of paint and enough miles that most wouldn't drive it beyond walking distance of home; bash canoes off of rocks and drag them over...

Trimming small canoe to face down river

I'm not sure how gnarly your river is but be sure you're tied on with an easily released slip knot and have a float attached to the line so you can recover the chain when it snags (and it will... probably quite often) Without the float, the system might be hard (or impossible) to recover and...

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

Thanks for the update RPATCH, sounds like yet another good reason to make my way to the WPASCR. (sure wish they hadn't changed the dates)

Leaving for the still "frozen" North, Riviere Megiscane

UGH. That stinks. I guess we'll await the TR and/or his YouTube video to get the first-hand version.

Trimming small canoe to face down river

I'm not sure you'll be able to manage that with trim alone. On float trips, I used to use a short piece of heavy(ish) chain tied to the boat with a slip knot. A float on the line made recovery possible when it snagged and I could cut the chain loose, get turned around, paddle back upstream to...

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

On trips, I carry two 7 foot, medium light, fast action rods spooled with 4-6 lb flourocarbon line. The same two that I use for finesse fishing on my bass boat. Pike often break off pretty easily and you'll be awhile landing a nice smallie or laker but I tried lightweight braid briefly and, as...

    What's out West?

I'm well aware that, even if I had an entire lifetime, I could not see/do everything out there that's worth seeing/doing (much like I can't paddle every route worth paddling in Ontario without a winning lottery ticket and a fountain of youth). I guess what I was after is this: Is there...

Are You Prepared to Confront Spider Bites?

Good grief, we've worried about ticks and bears and wolves and moose; bigfoot, chupacabra and running out of toilet paper or coffee and now we have to worry about spiders too?! To answer the question in the title... no. What color cat repels spiders?

Aftermarket roof rack options w/o rain gutters

At this point I might go that route Alan. I didn't pay much for the Fusion and, if I run it for 10 years or so, it won't be worth any more than my Ranger now is (scrap price). My only reservation is that I have 2 buddies in the car business who are watching for a used Prius that I can grab...

2025 Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous

I might run over on Saturday afternoon, really not sure about dragging a boat along though, especially as time would be limited. Do they usually have homemade boats there?

Kaleidoscopic Kringelfieber 2022 (Germany) from overhead drone

All those boats clustered together; it looks like the first day of trout season on any local lake. Pretty cool to see that many open boats and everybody holding single blades.

Aftermarket roof rack options w/o rain gutters

Thanks guys. The car is in unbelievably good shape so I hate to mess up the paint with clamps that might rub or foam blocks that might move around but it's encouraging to hear that the racks are secure. Even though it's got the stomp and steer transmission, I might just keep it and wear it out...
