How much does your gear weigh

I do pretty well with about 80 lbs plus the boat. This gear list is outdated but it gives some idea of how I pack. I don't use the Knu-Pack system any more and my current tripper (Peregrine) is a bit lighter, but the overall weight is about the same: about 120 lbs total...

    Left over Epoxy ?

If the heads are held securely, you can use them as clamp bolts for a solo portage yoke. http://codabone.net/canoeing/canoes/seatyoke.htm

    Solo expedition build

My Dad was an artist - he'd have had high praise for your creativity and ingenuity, as well as the sheer beauty of the product. I just sit looking at the pictures with my chin hanging down. One suggestion: put some kind of loop or hole somewhere so you can secure it with a cable when it isn't...

Marathon Shop Days - Sailing Tripper Rebuild with DougD and Joel

OMG, what a project! It just might make a decent sailing rig. Considering how hard it would be to hike out, do you plan to put an outrigger on it?

    Why I trip alone

ppine, that's great advice. If I could find a reliable and experienced partner who's available when I am, I'd go tandem for sure. My heart issues should all be settled before my next planned BWCA trip in September.

My "not a trip" trip report.

You're smarter than I am. Last summer I realized I wasn't really up for a solo trip. Of course, I went ahead and put together a 10-day trip in the BWCA. I stayed one night. Duh.

    Buoyancy tank plugs

You might be able to make an oversize hole in the kevlar and epoxy a bushing into it. A piece of PVC tubing might work, if it has the right inside diameter. Then you just make the hole so the outside diameter is a snug fit and glue it in. The challenge might be holding onto the tubing, since...

    More on Royalex

Aren't Solomon and Socrates considered the paragons of wisdom? And what do you suppose their methods were? They asked questions. You're in good company.

    Canoe shop in southern Wisconsin

I once took a broken cedar strip canoe to a guy in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, who ran a shop where people would rent space and build boats. Does anyone here know if that shop is still open? All this talk about building boats makes me want to hang around there and maybe help out.

    Tripping truck sleeping

I once had the same problem in the kennel, where two dogs slept year-round. The solution was to drill holes in the raised floor so the moisture had somewhere to go. No more damp blankets.

    Greetings from New Jersey

Welcome, Dan (and by extension Mrs. Dan)! I hope you know how lucky you are to have a partner who enjoys what you do. I've done 14 Boundary Waters trips, 8 of them solo and 6 tandem (trip reports available for all). I suspect most others here also go both ways. Please share more of your...

An open letter to the group

Robin can ban me for what I'm about to say. If that happens, it will be a good example of what I referred to above as despotism. When I first read the original post I was mortified. There is no reason I can think of to go after YC, or Marc, or anyone else, in such a personal, vindictive, and...

You decidedly do NOT understand not only what I've written but other aspects of the discussion. I prefer to leave it alone at this point.
