Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

That is what I found too YC...the double is harder for me to use in a canoe. Works good in a yak but I find that I tend to get more upper body twist in the canoe than I do with a single. I can single all day without tiring but the double takes more energy for me.

    Wildlife Hatchet

Old lady axe...or possibly a Canadian thing. When I have a job that needs an axe, I would rather a chainsaw.

    What's Inside a Float Tank?

Well, since you asked, here is what I found. Dont worry, I didnt cut them open just to show you...they are waterlogged and need cleaning out. It really almost looks like seat cushion foam. Very absorbant. Which is why a 14 foot canoe is almost too heavy to lift. It was a $100 boatt impulse...

Poll: What percent of the time do you use a double blade paddle solo?

Heyyy...my cousin is actually rather cute Mem. I have tried to like a double blade...and I do, in a kayak. Maybe I am just tooo good with a single to appreciate the double.

Tripping with those you don't well know

I have a couple of new paddling partners the past few years. We started off with day trips and that turned into weekenders off grid. I would ask about a longer trip but as karin will tell you, I can be a bit difficult. I am trying to expect less of people though and that seems to help.

That will likely be a pretty tough slog again by now.

    Upgrade and repair

Not all rust paint is created equal. We had used Tremclad for years with good luck on canvas boats but went to a Home Hardware brand and it cracked horribly after one year. Apparently that paint was made for hard surfaces. Lesson learned. You should be ok if you want to use rust paint...its...

    My new winter project

Bothwell may have some ideas for you too, although the advice you have already is pretty good. Bothwell makes stuff as a side business and knows canvas, which type to use for tentage. I personally like a slightly larger tent. We used to live in sections of modular tent that was heavy heavy...

History of the De Havilland Beaver

I used to go to Downsview in the early 80's. It was a maintenance depot for the army at the time. You tend to see more Otters than you do Beavers any more. I believe a company called Cascade has the rights to the twin otter and was thinking of starting production again on those. I worked the...

    Wildlife Hatchet

I have discovered tht while I like to take an axe with me, I rarely use it. Moslty for limbing or cleaning portage trails. Setting up camps can involve a lot of clearing of slash and smallish trees etc and I have taken to using a machete for that. That can be pretty dangerous too if you are not...

    Canoes and guns...

Those are three nice lever guns. The only problem I have with the M95 is that they are kind of clunky to work if not really well worn in. You have to have big heavy rifles in those calibers or they hurt when you shoot them.

    Post Apocalypse Tripping World

Same problem here as Doug pointed out. The hordes from the city are swarming the hiking trails...yoiu cant even find a place to park at the trailheads. They are all clustered up and snuggling at the picnic tables spreading their bio bug cornicopia amongst each other. If the pandemic would kill...

    Ontario Crown Land shut down

We are headed the same way in Manitoba I fear. As soon as the locusts discover a place to flock to it is swarmed. We have morons who are insistent on paddling even now.. Its not that they are paddling, its that they leave their home communities to do it and this risks spreading the disease far...

going a bit of a different direction this winter but will be back in canoe country soon.

    Moving Forward with Plans

I can paddle locally, both day trip and longer so the opportunities are still there if I want to use them. The question is do I ask my niece to break quarantine to go with me. I am sensing a lot of opposition to me going solo though so I would have to work on that one. I am guessing the fishing...

Help me choose my last Canadian river trip

Most of the canadian shield rivers are pool and drop so that involves frequent but short portages. There are areas where the lakes are mostly just wide spots in the river. Is this a solo or will you have others with you. For me having someone else makes many things more possible. If I were...

    Trippers are Preppers too.

I do try to plan ahead for a lot of stuff...like having lots of deck screws and 2x4s on hand for spur of the moment projects. I garden so my freezer is pretty much full. Living in the country means you cant just run to the store whenever you want something, yoiu need to plan the trip to multi...

    Canoe form value

I know Doug Ingram has been building a few 18 foot frieghters modified for racing lately. Not sure what he has for a mold, probably one he made himself. I have a $100 fibreglass 14 footer that I am contemplating turning into a mold.

    Canadian border closed

I rather doubt that anyone who actually knows yoiu wouild class you as frail YC. That is kind of cute. For my part, I will admit to being less able than I used to be. I went for a walk today too but I have been painting a boat and reinsulating my attic this week so I didnt have much left in me...
