    What are you reading?

Just finished Many Rivers To Cross: Of Good Running Water, Native Trout, and The Remains of Wilderness by M.R. Montgomery. I liked it so much that I bought The Way of the Trout: Anglers, Wild Fish and Running Water by the same author at the Lion's Club Book Sale today. Just starting Ordinary...

    Dropping in from down under.

Welcome to the forum, Frogmouth. Your participation comes at a fortunate time for me, as well. I'll be returning to Australia in February after a 40 year absence, mostly to Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland...although having read some good things about canoeing on the Colo in The Hawkesbury. I...

    Building A Steambox Advice

Similar to Boatman's system shown above, watch this Youtube video from a shipwright who bends wood without a steambox.

    New Header

The style also looks a lot like Francis Lee Jacques who, besides illustrating several Olsen books collaborated with his wife, Florence Page Jacques on Snowshoe Country and Canoe Country. He is one of my favorite illustrators...I'll grab anything which includes his illustrations.

    Canoeing in paintings

No Title This thread gives me a chance to try to solve a mystery. Last fall, I bought a print from a thrift shop. I don't like the frame and mat but really liked the print. Anyway, it came with no information. The only clue was the kinda' indistinct signature, which I can't savvy at all. I've...

    Why I trip alone

David Curran in Canoe Trip: Alone In The Maine Wilderness expresses something similar to Oliver: "I prefer to go alone. I always feel that I come up short in saying why. I know that I like the simplicity of it. Planning alone is at least twice as easy as planning with another. I know that my...

    Appying epoxy over varnish

I bought a 16' cedar stripper that is good condition, structurally. I am going to have to reinforce the bow and stern with fiberglass and epostems because of abrasion that has exposed wood. Since it appears that the original builder only put a single filler coat of epoxy on the inside of the...

    Western Oregon

Thank you for the welcome and you are right, of course, Brad. I probably shouldn't diss The Barge. At 80 lbs, it's a bear to get in the water, but once in, loaded and trimmed it paddles well, even solo... Dave

    Western Oregon

Thank you for your welcome, Robin. We do have a lot of canoe trips here in the west. But reading about trips on this and other sites, I admit to jonesin' sometimes for a chance to paddle the abundance of lakes, rivers and wilderness you all have in the northern plains, New England and Canada...

    Western Oregon

We live in the Coast Range of western Oregon, on the Luckiamute River. I've paddled tandem for years, but have been canoeing solo alot more lately. I have paddled much of the Willamette River from Eugene north and my own smaller Luckiamute. But last year took several trips to the lakes of the...
