    Below waterline rivets

I know my aluminum canoe has hundreds of rivets...no leaks The hardware store rivets I used on the gutters don't leak either. You might try a test rivet on some scrap, just to be sure! Scott

    Gas price

$3.93 here in WNY---usually highest around, never sure why. Yes it will affect our plans. We decided last night to focus on some new Adirondack trips this summer...had wanted to go to Northern Canada or Michigan or maybe Wyoming, but gas plus fees add up fast. I'm amazed at the fees charged to...

What are your 2012 tripping plans?

So far we haven't experienced bad black flies yet on our last week of June trips. I did get some bites in the still, early morning by the water in Killarney last year...I can see how they would drive you nuts in large persistent quantity. I looked up the Allagash ice caves...really interesting...

What are your 2012 tripping plans?

Wow, sounds great YC. Are blacks gone by late June, or still annoying where the water is cold enough to hatch them? Scott

DuctTape Any specific ADK ponds on your wish list for the year? Give us details that will make roadends make the trip to the ADK's. We're looking at Oswegatchie up and back from Wanakena. Right now leaning toward Massasauga Prov. Park on Georgian Bay Ontario for our big first week of summer...

    Pictures of Favorite Canoe Places

Great pictures Willis...makes me want to add the Lila Traverse to my list. The Oswegatchie is on my list for this summer...an up and back from Wanakena (NY in northern ADK's). That last photo makes me want to paddle right now! Scott

    A Dilemma for Christmas!

Well, dilemma solved! I ended up with the OT Penobscot, a demo model they had in green. It is way lighter than the old aluminum., so we won't be afraid to choose trips with a little longer portage now. It's got me excited about planning for a canoe trip now! Scott

    Pictures of Favorite Canoe Places

I like this forum, with it's members from many different places...places I've never been, never paddled. I would love to see a few photos from a favorite canoe destination....kind of like a travel brochure...make me want to go there some day! Here's what I mean... Place: Killarney Provincial...

    What are you reading?

Hey Willis--reading books like that will lead to a canoe trip. So what's on your "tripping radar" in Algonquin. I can't decide between a first trip to Algonquin, a return to Killarney or Massasauga/Georgian Bay. Too many nice ponds to paddle up there! Scott

    What are you paddling?

Re: What are you paddling? Pakman...tell us about the Nessmuk XL. Do you use a double paddle or single blade? What do you love about it? We live an hour away from Hemlock Canoe Works...I really need to get over there and paddle some boats on Canadice Lake. Scott

    Map Miles

Re: Map Miles Good ideas....thanks for sharing! I have discovered I like to study the google satellite images before going on a trip. It gives me a good sense of the proximity of major landmarks. Things always look so different from the ground. Old orienteering guides always tell you to study...

    Warm winter=early paddling in spring?

Re: Warm winter=early paddling in spring? Dry suit and/or wet suit are on my wish list...to extend the paddling season. Cross country skiing is my winter activity...been hiking in the woods instead...it has been very interesting to watch the critter trails, little creeks, and winter birds. Scott

    Warm winter=early paddling in spring?

I know we have posters from all climates on this board, but it has been crazy warm this winter in WNY. I think that's why I have been thinking about canoeing so much...I even had the maps out yesterday looking at the ADK's, PA, Ontario, Michigan...even Wyoming. The creeks here are full, even the...

    A canoe for 2

Well I see no one has posted in the "Tandem" section yet, so here goes. I can see a solo canoe in my future, but I sure have had fun with our old aluminum tandem. There is something special about moving across the water as half of a 2 person "engine". We live in such an independent, solitary...

    What are you paddling?

Re: What are you paddling? Therefore the rate of change, dC/dn=1.....which means I must buy one before spring! Scott
