I know my aluminum canoe has hundreds of rivets...no leaks The hardware store rivets I used on the gutters don't leak either. You might try a test rivet on some scrap, just to be sure! Scott

Well, dilemma solved! I ended up with the OT Penobscot, a demo model they had in green. It is way lighter than the old aluminum., so we won't be afraid to choose trips with a little longer portage now. It's got me excited about planning for a canoe trip now! Scott

Hey Willis--reading books like that will lead to a canoe trip. So what's on your "tripping radar" in Algonquin. I can't decide between a first trip to Algonquin, a return to Killarney or Massasauga/Georgian Bay. Too many nice ponds to paddle up there! Scott

Re: Map Miles Good ideas....thanks for sharing! I have discovered I like to study the google satellite images before going on a trip. It gives me a good sense of the proximity of major landmarks. Things always look so different from the ground. Old orienteering guides always tell you to study...
