    Weather radios and tripping

I believe Mike has called posting to a dead and gone thread as "necro-posting" but I'll give it a go anyway.... We've wanted a portable NOAA weather radio for some time and so after I found this thread I went spelunking around the internet and saw that Sangean has an updated radio, the DT-800...

    Refurbishing a favorite old tent

Another tool in the kit is iron on seam sealing tape. Quest has it along with a number of other goodies for gear maintenance and repair including peel and stick sil-nylon patches etc. https://www.questoutfitters.com/Miscellaneous_Products.htm#SEAM%20SEALING%20TAPE Best regards, Lance

    Refurbishing a favorite old tent

I have 16' and 20' Kelty Noah's Tarps and have only used the 20' one for a very rainy week in the mountains of VA where we got 8" of rain in four days. It had no leaks but that's not remarkable as it was it's maiden voyage. Out of curiosity, I reached out to Kelty to see what should be used to...

    Refurbishing a favorite old tent

Hal, what size is the vestibule? If it's a 2-P vestibule I am definitely interested in it. I used to have a 4-person Alpine Meadows that our kids somehow managed to lose years ago and I have a 2-person one now. I still have an unused 4-P vestibule in the bag and am hoping to find a nice tent...

    Soloing while married

Knowing where I was stationed when I heard this story it had to have happened around in 1984-5. The wife of an Army Major I met a few years after this told told the story that as his family had money they had a nice wooden sailing boat while stationed in Puerto Rico. One night over drinks with...

    Soloing while married

Hmm.... Change the hobby, change the genders or personal descriptors, etc and apply as needed.... So a guy is in his garage puttering on his classic cars when his new bride walks past and says "Gee, honey, now that we're married you don't need to spend your time out here. We can sell all...

    Seller’s Market for Used Canoes

Hey!! There's a Lincoln fiberglass canoe with some neat custom wrinkles in it for sale on craigslist in Danville, Virginia as a package deal with a plastic canoe(ish) thing that has a neat-o internal aluminum frame running down the floor and really nice wavy hull for a mere $1200!!! I have the...

    Seller’s Market for Used Canoes

Here in northwest North Carolina this is about the time I would normally expect a surge of canoes to be popping up on craigslist (based on my short three Springs of experience) so maybe things will change but..... Pickings have been slim indeed with the notable exception of a really nice...

    Canoe Tripping Fundraiser & Raffle

Glenn, I like that idea personally but also recognize, as you did, that it entails more time and effort on someone's part to herd the Canoe Tripping cats through such a process. I suppose one could ask each entrant to subscribe to a "drawing thread" or do it as a part of this thread then...

Just cut a hole in the bottom. You'll have plenty of legroom. Lance

    Solo canoe seat question

On an asymmetrical boat the center point of the wetted area is behind the center of the boat as determined by length so the seat has to be behind the mid length point or you'll be bow down. To add to what has already been said your center of gravity is ahead of the seat to some degree no matter...

    Canoe Tripping Fundraiser & Raffle

Thanks, Bob They are still kind of a work in progress. I've only made a few of them and each one has had some tweak or modification. About the time I think I have something like that pretty nailed down either another idea surfaces in what passes for my brain or another interest distracts...
