    Wildlife Hatchet

I have used the Outdoor axe for two tripping seasons now. It is an amazing piece of kit. For the weight it has no equal for limbing or splitting. Out in the woods I would never set a log on a stump and try to split it, especially with a short handled ax or hatchet. I either baton or use this...

How to tell if your knife is sharp enough

I am a big fan of stropping between uses. 3v is my favorite steel. Not easy to hand sharpen, but once it is sharp, it stays sharp. Went to the Wicked Edge a couple years ago and won't go back. Only thing I can't do is scandi grinds, but I hate them anyway.

    Old Town Next?

It's not just stability. I like a short canoe I can take on small rivers and creeks. A 39 inch wide canoe like my Fisherman is nice to poll as well. Going to try poling on the Kinni on Sunday.

Tandem canoe for wild river with some level I and II water (maybe a III).

Esquif doesn't list the bow ans stern measurements which is interesting, but it is 2 inches deeper in the midship than the Discovery 158.They both have Shallow Arch hauls but I would imagine the Canyon has a higher bow and stern, which should in theory keep you dryer.

Help me choose my last Canadian river trip

French River. Doesn't meet your 3rd requirement of 200 miles at 68, but meets all others I think. Have watched Tumblehome and Shawn James do this trip several times and it is on my bucket list.

    Carbon Fiber paddle repair

Added an epoxy "rock guard" to an older carbon fiber paddle my daughter will be using this year. My question is can I roll on a thin coat of epoxy or varnish on the entire blade? In order to flare the rock guard I sanded a little of the finish on the blade as well as scuffs and gouges from prior...

West systems 207 and Ephines Varnish combination

Brian, My reasoning for 3 coats was solely based on online research. Even two coats seems pretty thick. Thank you for the advise. https://www.epoxyworks.com/index.php/varnish-over-epoxy/

West systems 207 and Ephines Varnish combination

Thank you Mike, very helpful. I have 120 and 220 for my RO sander. I will use 220 to take the sheen off. While I'm on the subject, what is the best application tool for varnish on wood. I have found the cheap disposable brushes to be the best, but would like to know your method. And thank you...

West systems 207 and Ephines Varnish combination

Thank you for your reply. I am glad I asked because I was under the impression I had to put the varnish on before the epoxy had totally hardened in order for it to have good adhesion. Again, thank you to everyone for your help.

West systems 207 and Ephines Varnish combination

Made a canoe thwart, bow, and stern handles from Ash. Going to put 3 coats of Epoxy, and 3 coats of Ephines on.I already put two coats of West Systems 105 and 207 on last week. Before I put the last coat on should I sand with 120 grit for proper adhesion? Can't find and info on how long to let...

    Canoe seats

When I set up my Morningstar as a solo I installed the extra wide web seat from Northstar and couldn't be happier. With the wide width you can lean on each side and still be on the seat.
