What was the original finish that was on the gunwales?

I’ve never tripped with any of my dogs. They’ve all enjoyed going out in either canoe or tandem kayak at our camp. Our current dog Burnum a cattle dog red heeler loves the paddle around the pond, he knows he gets to swim when we return!

I also ordered the carbon steel pan from eBay $25.00 11” size. It arrived today looks decent need to season it before use.

I did! Cleaned up a bit, removed the gunwales, repaired a hole n the planking. 3 coats of captains on the inside and a coat linseed on on the outside. Coming along.

I‘m a cast iron fan myself (take on solo trips) have many old Griswold’s and wagners, along with some newer Lodge pans. On group trips use lighter none stick pans, thinking about replacing with carbon steel. Cooking mostly on coleman white gas stoves. There are a lot of old pans are out there...

Just ran across these pans on eBay. Anyone have any experience with these? They are carbon steel. Handles appear to be bolted on which could make them removable for packing.
