Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

I sold this Kevlar Explorer for $800 about 8 years ago, fresh pant and wood, no hull repairs. Spring time is a tough time to find good deals. Before After,

New to me Portage Pal trailer

No plans for taking a canoe, this is basically a road trip to see remote Labrador, Newfoundland’s coast and hopefully some icebergs. A lot of Newfoundland’s back roads are loaded with potholes from the info I have gathered so I leave the canoe home. Also, bringing a trailer on the 3 ferry's...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

It hasn’t been mentioned yet, but that Wenonah is not suitable for solo paddling of which the Mad River is (canoe reversed, solo paddler sitting on the bow seat facing the stern seat). I would take the Mad River Explorer for its versatility, rivers, streams, solo, tandem, big lakes, just a...

New to me Portage Pal trailer

That’s an awesome camper/trailer combination. I bought an older pop up truck camper and plan a trans Labrador road trip this spring, but no trailer this trip.

New to me Portage Pal trailer

Getting my wood canvas canoes up on my trucks roof racks is still doable but getting harder each spring so I found this on Face Book Marketplace Monday. It needs some work but it was pretty much what I was looking for. Lights inop, fender bracket weld broken, 1” &7/8” tongue (2” ball is my go...

    Skegs on canoes?

You mention things like optimum prismatic coefficient, Swede form, asymmetrical rocker, Kevlar, carbon fiber and CAD, all things that make the modern canoe so much better than Chestnuts, yet you still need a skeg on a canoe? Those Indians, prospectors, guides put a lot more miles on those old...

    Happy National………Day

Thanks Glenn, I appreciate your mentioning that today is Vietnam War Veterans Day. Coming home was an awkward time for many veterans, myself included. This recognition is most appreciated.

Good Morning . Idle chat about your morning, your weather, your plans for the day.

I have owned a 1987 John Deere 750 Compact Tractor 4wd for 14 years. It’s a great homeowner tractor, 3 cylinder diesel with plenty of torque. Great for clearing snow, hauling firewood and no computer. I also have a 1966 John Deere Garden Tractor (aka round fender) I restored.

Tired of restrictive headnets, try this

Sometimes I might be…well I don’t know, a little too dismissive of new ideas? I really wasn’t that receptive to that “portage pal” tool and after some deep self analysis I have turned over a new leaf. While I’m still not going to buy the above mentioned gizmo, I have now come to my senses and...

Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

Looks like a good one, here’s to many enjoyable fireside meals. Mine are not really seasoned, I just carry some EVO and use that for non stick cooking. Afterwards I wipe out the oil and crud with a paper towel, then wipe a thin coat of oil over the cooking area. The friend who introduced me to...

PortagePal to carry paddles and fishing rods

I’m not sure how I ever managed to complete one portage without the aid of a PortagePal. I expect we will soon be graced with threads on various ways to store our PortagePal, best PortagePal gloves, available colors, grips, “stripper-builds PortagePals, traditional PortagePals made of wood and...
