What to use for an inside ground sheet (and how to use it)?

Interesting comparison (by DuPont) explaining why Tyvek is better than Typar. https://www.dupont.com/tyvek-weatherization/typar-protection-system.html Frankly, I'm thinking just a heavy duty plastic drop cloth.

    Refinishing wood gunwales

Regarding thinning tung oil prior to application, it isn't terribly important to do since the gunnels were already finished with tung oil from the factor. I'd lightly sand, vacuum, wipe down with a damp cloth, let thoroughly dry and then go after it with 100% tung oil. I use a small piece of...

100% pure tung oil is my go to.

    Cliff Jacobson

Regarding the inside/outside debate for ground sheets, I re-read Cliff's advice from Canoeing Wild Rivers, 30th Anniversay Edition, and I don't think Cliff is advising anyone to put the groundcloth/footprint that is typically sold by the tent manufacturer to go with a specific tent model inside...

lol, I very nearly cited those exact two "controversies" in my earlier reply.

    Hudson Bay Axe Disimprovement

The after-market possibilities for those bolts are positively endless! For those with can't seem to hit the log they are aiming for, there's the Acme "Accu-Chop" bolt-on axe-head laser sight ($199.99)! Or for those who can't quite get the hang of sharpening an axe by hand in the...

    Frying Pans

Nice looking pan. Checked their website and it doesn't seem like they sell in the U.S. They have a limited presence on Amazon with a folding pan but not the one you show.

I like Cliff and have his Canoeing Wild Rivers, 30th Anniversary Edition. Lots of good information in that book.

    PIctures of celebrities in canoes

At least Ned Beatty and Burt Reynolds appear to be vaguely familiar with how to hold paddles and the concept of tandem paddling. John Voight looks hopeless.

    The Millinocket Carry, Northern Maine

Just seeing this. I'm not sure how I missed this when it came out; it's really a wonderful TR and I equally enjoyed Hope's map/photo essay. That's a really cool way to do a TR.

Online wilderness first aid class? Experience and/or comments?

That was the first half of the question. Also curious for what purpose. My best guess is these classes qualify you under some jurisdictions' Good Samaritan Laws. These laws generally protect people who (1) aren't compensated and (2) act in good faith from being sued for attempting to render...

Online wilderness first aid class? Experience and/or comments?

Of course. The question is who accepts this certification and for what purposes?

Online wilderness first aid class? Experience and/or comments?

What does it mean that "the certification is good for 3 years"? Good for what? Does their certification have some kind of significance outside of the organization offering it? My local canoe club offered a 90 minute, on-line wilderness first aid lecture conducted by a guy from one of the...

    Knee Pain

Roy we're about the same age and I'll bet the same weight. My knees aren't much of a problem but I don't work on a factory floor. But my ankles give me problems! After an hour or so of kneeling, my ankles fall asleep! I try to kneel in the whitewater and sit in the flat water, that helps. Or...

Man has skill getting to the waterfall. After that I still say gravity.

here's one NOT on my bucket list

In my opinion this is just gravity. Skill has little or nothing to do with the outcome. Might as well have been in a barrel.

First stripper build: Prospector-16 Help & comments appreciated

Yes, that's exactly how I did it on my Wabnaki and I'm so glad I did!!! Great for tie downs to the car and the low placement makes it a good location for painters when you are lining the canoe!
