    Seller’s Market for Used Canoes

Needing to offload some watercraft, just before the snow started flying, I introduced my son to advertising and selling on Facebook Marketplace. He took pictures, provided the specifications of each craft and handled the buyers inquiries and transactions. He sold my Native Watercraft Ultimate...

    Wood Canvas Canoe Identification help

Today I picked up the Chestnut Chum and brought her home to her new home. The canoe is in fact 32" at the beam and 15' feet in length. The canoe has a shoe keel that Patrick Corry mentioned but there are no original identifications other than the stem serial number and the residue of where the...

    Wood Canvas Canoe Identification help

There is no Chestnut labeling per the present owner. Per discussion with Robin after he reviewed photos he also believes that the canoe is a chum. I looked through the old Chestnut Canoe Catalogues and the dimensions do in fact match up with a chum. When I pick it up on Sunday I will share...

    Wood Canvas Canoe Identification help

For some reason the photos did not load properly. The beam is 33" and overall length is 15'. I recall reading that others were also having photograph upload issues so apparently I am as well.

Leaving in the wee hours tomorrow morning...

Kit Fox Pond is not named on Google Maps but I happen to think based on the report that it would be the pond that is Northeast of Nellie Pond and just South of Little Long Pond, or perhaps it is the little tiny pond in between. Not sure, but would certainly like to know.

Help deciding on a solo tripping canoe design

This thread is starting to give me the itch again to start another build. Have you decided on the Raven? Also I would be curious to learn from Memaquay exactly what paint product that he used for his canoe. Best of luck with your decision and your build. Jim Dodd said it well, there are...

Recommend a coffee maker? I'm done bearing a heavy thermos

I have and use the Stanley French Press. Very affordable and effective. The french press insert is removed during the boil and then reinserted after the boil to press the grounds and then act as a sipping surface so you are not cooking your lips off your face...

Leaving in the wee hours tomorrow morning...

Your trip report was fantastic! Canoe is aboslutely amazing. Having followed Robin for quite some time my interest grows on a daily base to either find a wood/canvas restore project or perhaps even build one someday. The pictures of your canoe on this trip only added to that. Great trip, great...

    Cutting Strips

Having completed my first canoe in May and having chosen the method of using my tablesaw, I certainly wish looking back on it that I had used the skillsaw method. I definitely had some minor inconsistencies using the table saw to rip the strips. I ran into some trouble with warped rough cut...

    October 1 BWCA Trip

The unknown variable when planning a trip is whether your plan will work out based on campsite availability. Reading through I thought for sure that the large group that you encountered would have immediately derailed your plan and was pleased to learn that your original plan was realized...

Moose River Bow Trip (Backwards), Maine, September 2020

That Debs loop is a silent arse kicker in my opinion! Have avoided the Bow trip because of its popularity but I think I will have to do this trip as a right of passage. Your photos were awesome and gave me the urge to tackle this sometime. Think I need a plastic boat for that one though.

Rocky Lake (Rocky Lake Public Reserved Land)

Glenn I can attest to the disorientation of the islands as there are many. That loop looks like a lot of fun and potentially something I will consider down the road. The stream put -in is off 191 and is called Mud Landing. Glad you liked the video. Appreciate it! I had a good laugh with your “I...

Rocky Lake (Rocky Lake Public Reserved Land)

Appreciate the kind words dougD! On most of my trips requiring grueling portages I mostly dehydrate my own meals, however, when there is no portaging I like to put on the feed bag with some fresh food. Point to self though...I should cut back on the portions just a touch. I am after all...

Happy to hear you enjoyed it Robin! I was hoping to create a memory that would inspire during the long winter as we all plan for our next paddling season trips. Hope all is well Robin and as always thank you for your service. We are all appreciative!
